INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Purchasing Integrations team is responsible for the JavaScript SDK and frontend infrastructure that power Affirm at checkout. We build the library that merchants embed directly into their storefronts - rendering payment messaging and buttons, initiating checkout flows, and orchestrating secure, real-time communication with Affirm’s web app. This code runs on high-traffic production sites, so performance, resiliency, and backward compatibility are critical. Milliseconds matter, and failure is immediately visible to merchants and consumers. This role is deeply frontend-focused. Engineers work on bundle optimization, script loading strategies, rendering performance, and Web Vitals, ensuring our SDK integrates cleanly into diverse merchant stacks without degrading UX. We design extensible UI components that support evolving checkout experiences while keeping integration simple and incremental for developers. Security enhancements and modern browser-based communication patterns are core to the work. The team operates at the intersection of platform and product: building reusable primitives, experimenting with new checkout surfaces, and translating complex requirements into intuitive APIs and polished UI. It’s an opportunity to work on high-scale frontend systems embedded across the web—where engineering rigor directly impacts conversion, growth, and user experience.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With the support of your team’s tech lead and manager, you will break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work.
You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
You will support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
You will contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
You have a total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
You have experience shipping web apps using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.
You have experience working with Javascript/Typescript.
You have experience designing, developing and launching APIs at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
You have mastered taking a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and executing on it by writing clear, easily understood, well tested and extensible code.
You are comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback to other engineers through code reviews.
Your experience demonstrates that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders.
You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
* This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Frame your portfolio around fintech UI
Affirm's frontend work centers on payment flows, checkout integrations, and real-time decisioning interfaces. Before applying, tailor your portfolio to show experience with high-stakes, transaction-critical UI rather than general web projects.
Confirm LCA filing before accepting any offer
Before signing, verify that Affirm has filed a Labor Condition Application with DOL for the specific location and role. Remote or hybrid Frontend Engineer roles may list a different prevailing wage location than where you'll actually work.
Search Affirm openings on Migrate Mate
Browse verified Frontend Engineer listings at Affirm filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, so you're only looking at roles where sponsorship has been confirmed rather than relying on job descriptions that may leave eligibility ambiguous.
Prepare for system design interviews with financial constraints
Affirm's frontend interview process typically includes system design questions scoped to payment UI, latency-sensitive rendering, and accessibility compliance. Practicing generic React scenarios won't prepare you for the product-specific depth they expect.

Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Frontend Engineers?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Frontend Engineer roles. The company has a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions in this function. If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Affirm can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start working as soon as USCIS receives the petition, without waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Frontend Engineer jobs at Affirm?
Applications go through Affirm's careers page, where Frontend Engineer roles are listed by team and location. Before applying, confirm the role is open to visa sponsorship, as not every posting makes this explicit. Migrate Mate filters Affirm's open Frontend Engineer positions by visa type, so you can identify sponsorship-eligible roles before investing time in the application.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly sponsor for Frontend Engineers?
Affirm sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Frontend Engineers. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose role qualifies under USMCA. OPT and CPT allow students to begin working during or after their studies before transitioning to H-1B status through the annual lottery.
What qualifications does Affirm expect from Frontend Engineer candidates?
Affirm typically looks for proficiency in React and TypeScript, experience building performant consumer-facing interfaces, and familiarity with accessibility standards. For senior roles, system design experience and cross-functional collaboration with product and design teams carry significant weight. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is the standard minimum for visa sponsorship eligibility under H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
How do I time my application to avoid gaps in work authorization?
If you're on OPT, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after your program end date, but your OPT must still be valid when the H-1B petition is filed. Cap-subject H-1B petitions can only be submitted in April for an October 1 start date, so plan backward from that deadline. Starting your Affirm job search by January gives you the most realistic runway to secure an offer, complete onboarding, and file before the cap opens.
