Job Description
At Atlas, we're providing services that enable communities to flourish and thrive. If you’re looking for an Environmental Scientist role, ready to assist in the management of subsurface investigation projects and committed to doing meaningful work, then this is your moment. You’ll provide support across the full lifecycle of subsurface environmental investigation projects—managing operations, executing technical work, developing clients, preparing compliant reports, collaborating with teams and partners, promoting safety and quality, and modeling Atlas core values.
Join a dynamic, value-driven, client- and community-focused environment where your work creates a lasting positive impact for the people and communities we serve.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist in the management of day-to-day operations for subsurface investigation projects throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin including all aspects of the project life cycle such as proposal generation, technical execution, leading a team, reporting, and invoicing.
- Execute project work appropriate for experience level related to due diligence, site investigation and characterization, remediation, and related environmental consulting areas.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to develop new clients and expand services provided to existing clients.
- Actively participate in professional and technical organizations appropriate for core skill set and client needs.
- Prepare reports by assisting with data compilation, reduction, interpretation, evaluation, and comparison to state and/or federal environmental regulatory standards.
- Positively interact with internal and external clients, service partners, and contractors.
- Promote a safety-first culture that values proactive measures and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other team members toward a common goal of providing client-centric services with high quality interactions and deliverables.
- Embrace and model the Atlas core values including trust, mastery, heart, and life.
You’ll thrive here if you have
- Experience with implementation and supervision of health and safety requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, solve problems using sound scientific judgment, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and maintain strong time management and attention to detail while working independently or as part of a team.
- The ability to pass drug screen and motor vehicle background check.
- The ability to lift 50 lbs.
- The ability to learn standard environmental field methods through on-the-job training, accurately document field observations, and follow instructions from senior staff for sampling, equipment use, and site procedures.
- Basic understanding of environmental science concepts from coursework (soil, groundwater, geology), with all task-specific training provided.
- The ability to use Microsoft Office for entering data, organizing photos, and supporting simple report components.
- The ability to progress toward independently conducting routine groundwater monitoring or drilling oversight events within the first several months.
- Willingness to perform a mix of field and office work, with the balance varying by season and workload.
- The ability to travel for both local day-trips and occasional out-of-town field events. Overnight travel varies by season and project workload, but typically occurs 1 to 2 times per month, with most overnight stays lasting 1 to 2 nights.
- Dependability, punctuality, and a positive attitude toward growth and long-term development within the department.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Align your credentials with field-specific requirements
Atlas operates across civil, environmental, and engineering disciplines. Match your degree and experience to the specific technical vertical you're targeting, since a generalist resume won't stand out against candidates with direct field or laboratory experience.
Target roles tied to active project pipelines
Consulting firms hire when billable work demands it. Research Atlas's publicly listed contracts and government project work to identify which service lines are actively staffing, then apply to Technical Consultant openings in those divisions first.
Clarify your OPT or TN authorization early in interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT or qualify for TN status, confirm your work authorization timeline upfront. Consulting firms often need consultants deployable within weeks, so a clear start date and authorization window removes a common hiring hesitation.
Understand the H-1B cap-gap protection window
If your OPT expires while an H-1B petition is pending, USCIS cap-gap rules extend your work authorization through September 30. Communicate this to your recruiter so Atlas's hiring team understands you can remain employed without interruption during processing.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Technical Consultant roles
Browsing Atlas's full Technical Consultant listing history by visa type helps you time your applications strategically. Migrate Mate filters sponsoring employers by role and visa category so you can target positions where Atlas is actively hiring sponsored candidates.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage questions before offer stage
Atlas must certify your offered salary meets DOL prevailing wage requirements for the work location before filing an H-1B petition. Research wage levels for your job classification and geography so you can negotiate from an informed position, not after the LCA is filed.

Does Atlas Technical Consultants sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Consultants?
Atlas Technical Consultants has sponsored H-1B visas for Technical Consultant roles. Because consulting firms hire based on active project demand, sponsorship activity can shift by season and service line. Targeting applications when Atlas has multiple open Technical Consultant postings improves your chances of reaching a team with current hiring budget and sponsorship intent.
How do I apply for Technical Consultant jobs at Atlas Technical Consultants?
Apply directly through Atlas's careers portal, tailoring your resume to the specific technical discipline listed in the posting. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Technical Consultant openings at Atlas filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you apply to roles where international candidates have historically been considered. Follow up with the recruiter after submitting your application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Technical Consultant roles at Atlas Technical Consultants?
Atlas has worked with candidates on H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Technical Consultant positions. OPT and CPT can cover the early employment period while an H-1B petition is prepared. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or scientific fields may also pursue TN status, which doesn't require USCIS approval and can be obtained at the border.
What qualifications does Atlas Technical Consultants expect for Technical Consultant roles?
Atlas typically seeks candidates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as civil engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline, along with hands-on project or field experience. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring that specific degree. Certifications relevant to your technical vertical strengthen your application, particularly for client-facing or site-based consulting work.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Atlas Technical Consultants?
Timeline depends on your visa type. TN status can be activated at a port of entry in a single day. H-1B petitions are tied to the annual April lottery cycle, with employment starting October 1 if selected. Premium processing through USCIS reduces the adjudication window to 15 business days. Plan your job search timeline around these fixed dates to avoid gaps in work authorization.
