Who We Are
Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation—inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom-line impact.
To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.
As a member of our consulting team, you’ll work alongside some of the world’s top minds on cases that reshape business, government, and society. You’ll collaborate on challenging projects with team members from many backgrounds and disciplines, increasing your understanding of complex business problems from diverse perspectives and developing new skills and experience to help you at every stage of your career—at BCG and beyond.
Consulting work is varied and rigorous, much of it performed at our client sites. Projects can vary in length, size, and location, depending on the client’s challenge. Because our clients operate all over the world, you may travel internationally.
You can expect to spend time working across a wide range of clients and projects from helping to devise the integration strategy for a pharmaceutical merger to developing sustainable farming practices in emerging countries.
For more experienced professionals, or as your career advances, you’ll begin to specialize in one or more practice areas, perhaps as part of our expert consulting track for those with deep knowledge and skills in a particular discipline or industry. Every step of the way you will be guided by BCG mentors and world-class learning programs designed to meet your individual needs.

Frame your degree around specialty occupation standards
BCG's Technical Consultant roles require a direct connection between your degree field and the work you'll do. A computer science or engineering degree maps cleanly, but a business degree needs supplementary coursework or experience in the specific technical domain to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation criteria.
Target BCG offices known for technical hiring
BCG's technology and digital practices, including BCG X, concentrate technical hiring in offices like Boston, San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. Applying directly to those office-specific postings increases your odds of landing with a team actively building technical capacity.
Clarify your visa type before the offer stage
BCG sponsors multiple visa categories, so bring up your work authorization status during the final interview round, not after the offer. Knowing whether you need H-1B, E-3, or TN sponsorship helps BCG's immigration team begin the LCA and petition process without delays.
Understand BCG's recruiting cycle for OPT timing
If you're on F-1 OPT, BCG's consulting recruiting cycle typically runs August through October for full-time roles. Align your application timing so your OPT start date and any STEM OPT extension cover the expected start, giving BCG enough runway before an H-1B cap season filing.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Technical Consultant roles by visa type
BCG posts Technical Consultant openings across multiple practice areas and offices simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter those roles by the visa categories BCG sponsors, so you're only applying to positions where your specific work authorization is already supported.
Prepare a consulting case portfolio before HR screens your visa status
BCG assesses Technical Consultants on case interview performance and technical problem-solving before immigration discussions begin. Having documented examples of technology implementations or data-driven consulting projects strengthens your candidacy before the sponsorship conversation ever starts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Consulting Group sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Consultants?
Yes, Boston Consulting Group sponsors H-1B visas for Technical Consultant roles. BCG is an established H-1B sponsor with a consistent track record across its consulting and technology practices. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, BCG typically files petitions in April for an October 1 start date, so your offer and LCA need to be in place well before the March registration window.
Which visa types does Boston Consulting Group commonly sponsor for Technical Consultants?
BCG sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Technical Consultant roles. Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA. Singaporean and Chilean nationals can pursue the H-1B1 visa. Each category has different documentation requirements, so confirm which applies to your citizenship before the offer stage.
What qualifications does Boston Consulting Group expect for Technical Consultant roles?
BCG typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a closely related technical field. Relevant experience in software development, data analytics, cloud infrastructure, or digital transformation is expected. Strong case interview performance matters as much as technical depth, since Technical Consultants at BCG operate at the intersection of business strategy and technology delivery.
How do I apply for Technical Consultant jobs at Boston Consulting Group?
Applications go through BCG's careers portal, where roles are listed by office and practice area. BCG's technical consulting hiring is concentrated in its digital and technology practices, including BCG X. You can browse open Technical Consultant positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces BCG roles where your specific work authorization is already supported, before you apply directly through BCG's site.
How do I plan my timeline around BCG's sponsorship process for an H-1B?
If you need an H-1B, BCG must register you in USCIS's electronic lottery each March. Selection results come in late March or early April, and approved petitions have an October 1 start date. That means you need your offer and Labor Condition Application certified by the Department of Labor before the registration window opens, which typically requires finalizing your offer no later than February of the cap year you're targeting.
