Frame your MBA around BCG's case format
BCG recruits Strategy Consultants heavily from MBA programs at schools like Harvard, Wharton, and Booth. Tailor your case interview preparation to BCG's specific framework style before on-campus recruiting begins, since sponsorship conversations happen after offers are extended.
Clarify your visa category before the offer
BCG sponsors H-1B, E-3, H-1B1 visa, TN, and F-1 OPT depending on your nationality and status. Knowing which category applies to you lets you ask the right questions during offer negotiations instead of discovering eligibility gaps after signing.
Use OPT strategically if you're on F-1
F-1 students who join BCG through OPT should file the H-1B registration in their first eligible cap season. BCG's legal team manages the petition, but you're responsible for ensuring your OPT end date and H-1B start date align without a gap.
Target BCG's consulting practice offices by staffing model
BCG operates both generalist and specialty practice staffing models. Offices in cities like Boston, New York, and Chicago carry heavier recruiting volume for Strategy Consultants, which correlates with more routine sponsorship processing experience at those locations.
Search open Strategy Consultant roles on Migrate Mate
Filter verified Strategy Consultant openings at BCG by visa type on Migrate Mate, so you're applying to roles actively open to your immigration category rather than finding out post-interview that sponsorship isn't available for your situation.
Prepare your credential documentation before final rounds
BCG's H-1B petitions for Strategy Consultants require degree equivalency documentation if your credential is from outside the U.S. Commission a credentials evaluation from NACES-member organization before your final-round interview so it's ready when USCIS requires it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Consulting Group sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Consultants?
Yes, BCG sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Consultants. The firm has an established immigration program that handles the full petition process through its legal team, including the annual H-1B cap lottery registration. If you receive an offer and are subject to the cap, BCG will file your registration in the next available cycle, which opens in March each year.
How do I apply for Strategy Consultant jobs at Boston Consulting Group?
Most Strategy Consultant roles at BCG are filled through MBA recruiting pipelines, direct applications on BCG's careers site, or experienced hire channels for those with post-consulting backgrounds. You can also browse verified open roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which shows BCG Strategy Consultant positions currently accepting candidates who need sponsorship.
Which visa types does BCG commonly use for Strategy Consultants?
BCG sponsors several visa categories for Strategy Consultants depending on your nationality and current status. H-1B is the most common for cap-subject candidates. Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and faster processing. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status. Singaporean and Chilean nationals may be eligible for the H-1B1 visa. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for students still in their authorized period.
What qualifications does BCG expect for sponsored Strategy Consultant roles?
BCG typically requires a bachelor's degree at minimum, with most sponsored Strategy Consultants holding an MBA or advanced degree from a recognized program. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under H-1B standards because the position requires theoretical and practical application of business strategy at a degree level. Relevant internship experience, case interview performance, and prior industry exposure all factor into offers.
How do I time my application around BCG's sponsorship process?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your offer start date, OPT expiration, and the H-1B cap timeline all need to align. H-1B cap petitions filed for an October 1 start date require USCIS registration in March. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have a STEM extension, that can bridge the gap. Confirm these dates with BCG's immigration counsel immediately after receiving an offer.
