INTRODUCTION
We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.
It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.
One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
To realize Confluent’s enormous potential, we are looking for software engineers, at various levels, to grow our Traffic team which is responsible for building and managing the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. Cloud networking is a strategic investment area for Confluent with the potential to impact the company’s top and bottom line. The data plane area in the Traffic team focuses on the performance, security, reliability, and cost optimizations for all traffic that ingresses and egresses a customer's Kafka cluster on Confluent Cloud.
We are looking for someone with an interest in building large-scale distributed systems, with a focus on building and managing network data planes for containerized workloads in the cloud. The ideal candidate would be passionate about network data plane performance, scale, cost optimizations, and building robust software.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
-
Build the software underpinning the mission-critical Confluent Cloud network data plane platform. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing and operationalizing high performance, scalable, reliable and resilient systems.
-
Independently drive execution of software projects to deliver complex projects in production with a focus on quality.
-
Build upon open source software to deliver business impact.
-
Troubleshoot issues and improve ops for complex technical stack that spans all the 3 clouds and includes microservices, containers, and virtualization.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
-
2-5 years of relevant cloud infrastructure/cloud networking experience
-
Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure or GCP)
-
Practical experience with Kubernetes and containerization technologies
-
Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
-
Experience building and operating large-scale systems
-
Solid understanding at a systems level (disk, network, operating systems, etc)
-
Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or other statically typed languages
-
A self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams
-
BS, MS in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
WHAT GIVES YOU AN EDGE:
- A Strong networking background combined with your software engineering experience
READY TO BUILD WHAT'S NEXT? LET’S GET IN MOTION.
COME AS YOU ARE
Belonging isn’t a perk here. It’s the baseline. We work across time zones and backgrounds, knowing the best ideas come from different perspectives. And we make space for everyone to lead, grow, and challenge what’s possible.
We’re proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. Employment decisions are based on job-related criteria, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other classification protected by law.

Align your stack with Confluent's infrastructure
Confluent runs heavily on Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud-native tooling across AWS, GCP, and Azure. Before applying, audit your resume to surface hands-on experience with these tools, since DevOps roles here expect production-level depth, not surface familiarity.
Confirm your degree field supports the specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the offered DevOps role. Degrees in computer science, information systems, or software engineering map cleanly. A mismatched degree can trigger a Request for Evidence, so gather course transcripts and equivalency evaluations early.
Clarify sponsorship scope before the offer stage
In interviews, ask whether the team handles H-1B transfers or only new cap-subject filings. Confluent's recruiting process for DevOps is structured, and getting clear answers on sponsorship type before an offer prevents costly delays if your situation requires a transfer instead of a fresh petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active DevOps openings
Sponsorship-willing employers don't always flag it in job postings. Search Confluent's DevOps listings on Migrate Mate to find roles actively open to visa candidates, so you're not spending time on applications where sponsorship was never on the table.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage requirements in your metro
Confluent has offices in Austin, Seattle, and the San Francisco Bay Area, each with different DOL prevailing wage levels. The wage the employer puts on your Labor Condition Application must meet the prevailing wage for your specific location, so research Level II and Level III rates for your target office before negotiating.

Does Confluent sponsor H-1B visas for DevOps roles?
Yes, Confluent sponsors H-1B visas for DevOps positions. The company supports both new cap-subject filings and H-1B transfers for candidates already holding valid H-1B status. If you're on F-1 OPT, Confluent can also initiate the H-1B petition process ahead of your OPT expiration, provided your start date and the April 1 filing window align.
How do I apply for DevOps jobs at Confluent?
Apply through Confluent's careers page or browse open DevOps listings on Migrate Mate, which filters for roles open to visa sponsorship candidates. Tailor your application to demonstrate production experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms. Confluent's hiring process for DevOps typically includes a technical screen, a systems design round, and a practical infrastructure assessment.
Which visa types does Confluent commonly use for DevOps positions?
Confluent sponsors H-1B visas for most DevOps hires requiring work authorization. The company also supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying roles, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured employees.
What qualifications does Confluent expect for DevOps roles?
Confluent's DevOps roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, which also supports the H-1B specialty occupation requirement. Practically, you'll need demonstrable experience with container orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and ideally some familiarity with distributed systems or event streaming platforms like Apache Kafka.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT or between visa statuses?
If you're on F-1 OPT, target Confluent's DevOps openings at least six to eight months before your OPT expires. This gives enough runway for an offer, onboarding, and H-1B petition preparation ahead of the April 1 filing window. If you're in the 60-day grace period after a previous role ended, USCIS still allows cap-subject H-1B filings, but you cannot begin work until October 1 of that fiscal year.
