Frame your retail credentials for U.S. standards
Dollar General evaluates AGM candidates on measurable store outcomes, not just titles. Translate your international management experience into U.S. retail metrics like shrink reduction, team retention, and sales-per-labor-hour before applying.
Target districts with high store density
Dollar General's AGM openings cluster in high-growth markets across the South, Midwest, and rural corridors. Focusing your search on regions where Dollar General is actively expanding gives you the strongest chance of landing a sponsoring offer.
Confirm sponsorship eligibility before the offer stage
Ask directly during the hiring manager call whether the district or region has approved sponsorship for this role. Dollar General's sponsorship decisions can vary by business unit, so getting clarity early prevents wasted time late in the process.
Understand how PERM timing affects your start date
If you're targeting a Green Card pathway through Dollar General, PERM labor certification adds months to the process before USCIS filing. Build that timeline into your job transition planning, especially if you're between OPT and cap-gap status.
Search visa-sponsored AGM openings on Migrate Mate
Filter for Dollar General Assistant General Manager roles by visa type on Migrate Mate so you're only seeing positions where sponsorship is confirmed. That saves you from applying to listings where the employer hasn't committed to international candidates.
Prepare for H-1B specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS requires that H-1B roles qualify as specialty occupations, which means your AGM position must be tied to a degree field like business administration or operations management. Gather your transcripts and employer job description early to support that classification.

Find Assistant General Manager at Dollar General JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Dollar General sponsor H-1B visas for Assistant General Managers?
Yes, Dollar General sponsors H-1B visas for Assistant General Manager roles. Sponsorship availability can vary by district and business need, so it's worth confirming with the recruiter or hiring manager during early conversations. Dollar General also files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL as part of the H-1B process, which sets the prevailing wage your offer must meet.
Which visa types are commonly used for Assistant General Manager roles at Dollar General?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for salaried management roles like AGM. Dollar General also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for eligible graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management classifications, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term sponsorship.
What qualifications does Dollar General expect for Assistant General Manager positions?
Dollar General typically looks for candidates with prior retail or operations management experience, preferably in a high-volume or multi-department environment. A bachelor's degree in business, operations, or a related field strengthens your H-1B petition since USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Demonstrated ability to manage teams, control shrink, and hit sales targets carries significant weight in the hiring process.
How do I apply for Assistant General Manager jobs at Dollar General?
You can browse Assistant General Manager openings at Dollar General filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces only roles where international candidates are considered. From there, apply directly through Dollar General's careers portal. Be ready to discuss your visa status and work authorization timeline early in the recruiter screening call, as sponsorship decisions happen at the district level.
How do I plan my timeline if Dollar General sponsors my Green Card as an AGM?
If Dollar General pursues an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card for you, the process starts with PERM labor certification filed with the DOL, which can take six months or longer before USCIS sees the I-140 petition. Priority dates and country of birth affect how long you wait after approval. Plan to maintain valid H-1B status throughout by coordinating renewals with your employer's immigration team well in advance of expiration.
