Translate retail leadership credentials early
Before applying, reframe your overseas management experience in U.S. retail terms. Quantify team size, shrink reduction, and sales targets you owned. Dollar General hiring managers screen for operational accountability, not just job titles.
Target Dollar General stores in high-hiring regions
Dollar General opens stores heavily in the Southeast and Midwest, where Assistant Manager pipelines are consistently active. Filtering your search by those geographies raises your odds of landing an interview with a store that has an open headcount approved for sponsorship.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the offer stage
Retail hiring moves fast at Dollar General. Raise your visa requirement during the second interview, not after an offer is extended. This prevents delays that can kill a conditional offer when the HR team needs USCIS filing timelines built into the start date.
Use Migrate Mate to surface verified sponsorship openings
Assistant Manager roles that include visa sponsorship are not always flagged on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate to find Dollar General openings specifically verified for sponsorship eligibility, so you're not wasting applications on stores that can't support a visa filing.
Align your OPT or TN status with store onboarding windows
If you're on F-1 OPT or a TN visa, confirm your authorization end date against Dollar General's onboarding cycle. Stores typically onboard on a rolling 30-to-45-day timeline, and your work authorization must remain valid through the full USCIS processing period for any status change.
Understand the PERM timeline for permanent residency paths
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Dollar General must complete DOL's PERM labor certification before filing your immigrant petition. That process alone takes several months, so confirm with your HR contact whether the role is approved for that pathway before accepting a position primarily for Green Card purposes.

Does Dollar General sponsor H-1B visas for Assistant Manager - Sales?
Dollar General does sponsor H-1B visas for Assistant Manager - Sales roles, though not every open position at every location will include sponsorship. Your best approach is to apply to locations where sponsorship has been extended for this function and to confirm eligibility directly with the hiring manager or HR business partner during the interview process.
How do I apply for Assistant Manager - Sales jobs at Dollar General?
You can search for Assistant Manager - Sales openings on Dollar General's careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa-sponsoring roles. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight team leadership, sales floor management, and inventory accountability. Dollar General's retail hiring process typically includes a phone screen, one or two in-store interviews, and a background check before an offer is extended.
Which visa types are commonly used for Assistant Manager - Sales roles at Dollar General?
Dollar General has sponsored H-1B visas for management-track roles and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates already in the U.S. on student status. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. For longer-term pathways, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification has also been used for this function.
What qualifications does Dollar General expect for an Assistant Manager - Sales role?
Dollar General typically looks for prior retail or supervisory experience, comfort managing a team across multiple departments, and a track record of hitting sales or shrink targets. A bachelor's degree is often preferred but not always required. Strong candidates can demonstrate they've handled scheduling, inventory processes, and customer escalations, since these are core daily responsibilities in the role.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Dollar General Assistant Manager role?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa type. H-1B sponsorship is tied to the April lottery and October 1 start date, so planning 12 or more months ahead is realistic. TN and OPT transfers can move within weeks if your documentation is in order. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL typically adds several additional months before a petition can be filed with USCIS.
