Tailor your resume for retail operations
Dollar General Sales Assistant postings emphasize inventory management, POS systems, and loss prevention awareness. Align your resume language to these specifics rather than generic customer service phrasing so your application clears initial screening for store-level roles.
Target high-turnover store locations strategically
Dollar General operates thousands of stores, and locations with frequent openings are more likely to move quickly on candidates who need sponsorship. Filter your search by geographic markets with active hiring rather than applying broadly to every posting.
Address H-1B specialty occupation eligibility early
H-1B approval for Sales Assistant roles can face scrutiny because USCIS requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation. Clarify with the hiring team whether the role is structured at a level that supports this classification before investing time in the process.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Dollar General openings
Dollar General's Sales Assistant jobs with visa sponsorship aren't always easy to find across general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Dollar General roles that support your visa type and apply directly to verified current postings.
Initiate the PERM conversation before your OPT expires
If Dollar General pursues a Green Card pathway through PERM labor certification for your role, the DOL process alone can take a year or more. Raise the timeline with HR well before your OPT or any cap-gap protection runs out to avoid a gap in work authorization.

Find Sales Assistant at Dollar General JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Dollar General sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Assistants?
Dollar General has sponsored H-1B visas, including for retail and operations roles. However, H-1B eligibility for Sales Assistant positions depends on whether USCIS classifies the specific role as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. You should confirm the role's classification with Dollar General's HR team before assuming H-1B sponsorship is straightforward for this position.
How do I apply for Sales Assistant jobs at Dollar General?
You can apply through Dollar General's careers portal on their official website. When applying, be upfront about your visa sponsorship needs in the application or early in the recruiter conversation. Dollar General uses E-Verify for employment eligibility, so having your work authorization documents ready before you receive an offer will speed up the onboarding process. Migrate Mate also surfaces active Dollar General Sales Assistant postings filtered by sponsorship type.
Which visa types does Dollar General commonly use for Sales Assistant roles?
Dollar General has sponsored F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, H-1B, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. For entry-level Sales Assistant positions, F-1 OPT and CPT tend to be the most practical starting points. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. H-1B and Green Card sponsorship typically apply to roles with more defined professional requirements.
What qualifications does Dollar General expect for Sales Assistant roles?
Dollar General Sales Assistant roles generally require customer service experience, comfort with point-of-sale systems, and the ability to handle merchandising and stocking tasks. A formal degree is not always required for the base role, though having one in a business or retail-related field can strengthen your profile if you're pursuing H-1B sponsorship. Prior retail or fast-moving consumer goods experience is a meaningful differentiator in the hiring process.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing sponsorship at Dollar General?
F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of work authorization after graduation, with a possible 24-month STEM extension if your role qualifies. If Dollar General agrees to file an H-1B on your behalf, that petition must be submitted in April for an October 1 start date. The PERM Green Card process through DOL can take one to two years or more, so begin that conversation with HR well before any authorization deadline approaches.
