Align your degree to packaging science roles
Amcor's core hiring in chemicals and materials favors degrees in polymer science, chemical engineering, materials science, and mechanical engineering. Map your coursework to specific product lines like flexible packaging or specialty films before applying, so your OPT EAD directly supports the role's technical requirements.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Amcor's recruiter to confirm active E-Verify participation early in negotiations, not after you've accepted. If they're enrolled, your 12-month OPT window can extend significantly, giving you more runway before H-1B filing season.
Target R&D and process engineering job postings
Amcor's research, development, and process engineering teams in the U.S. hire internationally at higher rates than corporate or administrative functions. Filtering your search to these departments in Chemicals and Materials increases your odds of landing a role where OPT-to-H-1B transitions are already routine for the hiring manager.
Use Migrate Mate to research Amcor's sponsorship history
Before your first interview, pull Amcor's EB-2 and EB-3 filing history through Migrate Mate. Seeing which job titles and locations have historically received employer-sponsored immigrant visas tells you exactly which teams are accustomed to sponsoring international employees and worth prioritizing in your application strategy.
Request a clear timeline for H-1B sponsorship in writing
Amcor's EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history suggests long-term intent for international hires, but OPT authorization is separate. During offer negotiations, ask HR to document the company's standard timeline for initiating H-1B sponsorship so your attorney and you can plan cap-season registration accurately around your OPT expiration.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your target role at Amcor's specific work location. For Level I and Level II positions in materials and engineering, knowing the DOL wage floor prevents you from accepting an offer that could later disqualify the same employer's H-1B or PERM filing.
Amcor OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amcor sponsor OPT visas?
Amcor doesn't sponsor OPT directly because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something an employer petitions for. What Amcor does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. Its track record with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship indicates it's comfortable employing and eventually sponsoring international workers for longer-term status.
Which departments at Amcor typically hire OPT students?
Amcor's strongest hiring of international candidates tends to concentrate in research and development, process engineering, materials science, and manufacturing operations. These teams work directly on packaging innovation and production, where specialized technical degrees are a direct match. Corporate functions like finance or marketing are less likely to have established OPT hiring patterns.
How do I start the OPT hiring process at Amcor?
Apply through Amcor's careers portal with your resume and, once you receive an offer, provide your OPT EAD to HR. Amcor runs the standard I-9 employment verification process through E-Verify. If you're on STEM OPT, confirm their E-Verify enrollment with HR early so your extension paperwork with your DSO can proceed without delays after your start date.
What is the typical timeline from OPT to H-1B sponsorship at Amcor?
There's no fixed timeline, but H-1B visa registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you begin working on OPT and your employer plans to sponsor you, the earliest practical filing window is the first March after your start date. USCIS processes H-1B petitions after lottery selection, so performance reviews and internal approval processes at Amcor should ideally begin well before registration opens.
How do I find OPT-compatible roles at Amcor?
Search Amcor's job listings filtered by engineering, R&D, or manufacturing categories, then cross-reference those job titles against Amcor's past EB-2 and EB-3 filings using Migrate Mate. Roles in locations where Amcor has filed employer-sponsored petitions before are your strongest candidates, since those hiring managers already understand the international hiring process and are more likely to support a future H-1B transition.
How does Amcor hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Amcor can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Amcor's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
