Align your degree to insurance roles
Amerita hires OPT students into roles tied to actuarial science, risk management, finance, and healthcare operations. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps directly to the job description, a clear academic match strengthens your case when Amerita evaluates OPT candidates for eventual H-1B sponsorship.
Verify Amerita's E-Verify enrollment early
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Amerita's enrollment status before accepting an offer if you hold a STEM-designated degree. E-Verify enrollment is an employer obligation, and confirming it upfront avoids a difficult conversation after you've already started.
Target actuarial and data analytics teams
Insurance companies like Amerita concentrate technical OPT hires in actuarial, underwriting analytics, and data science functions. Applying specifically to these teams increases your odds of landing a role that Amerita has a track record of staffing with F-1 students transitioning through OPT.
Search Amerita's verified OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to review Amerita's H-1B and employment-based visa filing history by role and department. This shows which functions at Amerita have supported international employees long-term, helping you target applications toward teams with a demonstrated pattern of sponsoring visa transitions from OPT.
Benchmark your salary using OFLC Wage Search
Insurance roles at Amerita are subject to DOL prevailing wage requirements once H-1B sponsorship begins. Before negotiating your OPT offer, use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I and Level II wage for your job title and location so your compensation expectations are grounded in what DOL will later require.
Raise H-1B intent during the offer stage
Don't wait until your OPT expires to ask whether Amerita sponsors H-1B. Raise the question during the offer or onboarding stage. Employers in regulated industries like insurance plan headcount and legal budgets annually, and early alignment avoids scrambling against the H-1B cap deadline in April.
Amerita OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amerita sponsor OPT visas?
Amerita doesn't sponsor OPT itself, USCIS grants OPT work authorization directly to F-1 students. What Amerita does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, making them an OPT-eligible employer. If your degree field aligns with their insurance and healthcare-adjacent roles, you can work at Amerita on your OPT without any employer petition.
Which roles at Amerita typically hire OPT students?
Amerita tends to concentrate technical hires in actuarial analysis, underwriting support, data analytics, and healthcare operations. These functions align well with STEM-designated degree fields, which also opens the door to the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Business and finance roles may be available depending on your specific degree and the team's current headcount needs.
How do I confirm Amerita is enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT?
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify and to sign a formal training plan with you. Ask Amerita's HR or recruiting team directly before accepting an offer. E-Verify enrollment is an employer obligation, and your Designated School Official will need confirmation before recommending the STEM OPT extension to USCIS.
How do I find out if Amerita has sponsored H-1B for OPT employees?
Migrate Mate lets you review Amerita's visa filing history by role and job function, so you can see which departments have supported H-1B transitions from employment-based pathways. This context helps you target the right teams during your job search and ask informed questions about sponsorship timelines during the offer stage.
What's the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at Amerita?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT and selected in the lottery, your OPT authorization covers any gap between selection and the October start under cap-gap rules. You'll need Amerita to file the H-1B petition after lottery selection, so raise sponsorship intent with your manager well before the March window.
How does Amerita hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Amerita can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Amerita's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
