Target Aon's actuarial and analytics pipelines
Aon's actuarial and risk analytics teams hire OPT students with quantitative backgrounds most consistently. Frame your resume around insurance-relevant tools like SQL, Python, or actuarial modeling software to align with the roles Aon recruits for repeatedly across its U.S. offices.
Verify Aon's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT students need their employer enrolled in E-Verify to qualify for the 24-month extension. Before signing an offer, confirm Aon's specific hiring entity is registered, since large firms sometimes use subsidiary legal entities that may not all carry E-Verify enrollment.
Align your OPT start date with Aon's hiring cycle
Aon recruits most actively for full-time roles in late summer and early fall. Request your OPT EAD early enough through your DSO so your USCIS-issued authorization is active by your target start date, avoiding gaps that could delay onboarding in a structured cohort hire.
Search Migrate Mate for Aon OPT-compatible openings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Aon roles by visa compatibility so you're only applying to positions where OPT authorization is accepted. This saves time compared to sifting through postings that require existing work authorization beyond what an OPT EAD provides.
Position yourself for Aon's H-1B sponsorship early
Aon has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for strong performers coming off OPT. During your OPT period, document your contributions clearly and raise the H-1B transition conversation with HR before the annual April lottery registration window opens.
Research prevailing wages for your role before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your job title and location before your Aon offer negotiation. Insurance consulting roles vary significantly by level, and knowing the DOL wage tiers helps you evaluate whether the offer supports future visa sponsorship.
Aon OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Aon sponsor OPT visas?
Aon hires students who already hold OPT authorization from USCIS. The OPT EAD is issued to you directly, not petitioned by Aon. What Aon does is accept OPT as valid work authorization and, for STEM OPT extensions, maintain E-Verify enrollment, which is required for your 24-month extension eligibility.
Which departments at Aon typically hire OPT students?
Aon's actuarial, data analytics, risk consulting, and technology teams are the most active in hiring OPT students. Entry-level analyst and associate roles in these areas align well with F-1 graduate profiles, particularly for candidates with quantitative degrees in statistics, finance, computer science, or related fields.
How do I find OPT-compatible roles at Aon?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Aon job listings by visa type so you're targeting positions where OPT authorization is accepted. Applying broadly without filtering wastes time on roles that require authorization your OPT EAD may not satisfy, especially if the posting specifies no visa sponsorship is available.
What is the timeline for starting at Aon on OPT?
Your USCIS-issued OPT EAD must be active on your first day of work. USCIS can take up to 90 days to process OPT applications, so apply through your DSO well ahead of your graduation date. Coordinate your requested start date with Aon's onboarding schedule to avoid authorization gaps.
Does Aon sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
Aon has sponsored H-1B visas for employees transitioning off OPT, though sponsorship decisions are made case by case based on role, performance, and business need. Start that conversation with your manager and HR contact well before the H-1B registration window in March, giving yourself time to prepare documentation.
How does Aon hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Aon can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Aon's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
