Align your resume to Apple's engineering tracks
Apple organizes hardware and software hiring into distinct technical tracks. Tailor your resume to the specific team you're targeting, whether silicon engineering, CoreML, or iOS frameworks, because generalist resumes get filtered out before reaching hiring managers who evaluate OPT-eligible candidates.
Verify your SOC code before applying
Your OPT EAD is tied to a specific field of study. Use O*NET to confirm your target role's Standard Occupational Classification code aligns with your degree before applying, since a mismatch between your major and the job's SOC code can invalidate your authorization and complicate a STEM extension.
Confirm Apple's E-Verify enrollment status early
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Apple maintains active enrollment, which makes it eligible to support your 24-month extension, but confirm this before accepting an offer so there are no gaps when you file your extension request with USCIS.
Time your application around Apple's intern-to-full-time pipeline
Apple converts a meaningful share of its interns into full-time hires, and those conversions often happen before campus recruiting cycles open to outside candidates. An internship completed on CPT positions you inside that pipeline and gives you a direct path to an OPT hire offer.
Research Apple's H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Before committing to an offer, verify that Apple has an active history of sponsoring H-1B visas for roles matching your function. Migrate Mate surfaces Apple's Labor Condition Application filing data by job title and location, so you can confirm your role has a real path past OPT expiration.
Submit your STEM extension request 90 days early
USCIS requires STEM OPT extension applications to be filed before your current EAD expires, and your DSO must recommend the extension in SEVIS before you submit. Starting the process 90 days out gives you time to resolve any I-983 training plan issues with Apple's HR or immigration team.
Apple OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor OPT visas?
Apple doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not a visa Apple petitions for. What Apple does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD and, critically, support STEM OPT extensions by maintaining E-Verify enrollment. Many OPT hires at Apple later receive H-1B sponsorship.
Which roles at Apple are most accessible for OPT students?
Software engineering, machine learning, silicon design, and hardware validation roles see the most OPT hiring at Apple. These functions align closely with STEM-designated degrees and map to job codes that qualify for the 24-month STEM extension. Product management and design roles do hire OPT students but are more competitive and less consistently available.
How do I find OPT-eligible job postings at Apple?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's open roles by OPT eligibility and view the company's Labor Condition Application history by occupation. This shows which teams have filed LCAs for roles matching your degree, giving you a more targeted shortlist than browsing Apple's general careers page without visa filters.
What is the timeline for OPT hiring at Apple?
Apple's full-time recruiting cycle typically runs from September through December for spring and summer start dates. Intern offers for CPT positions go out earlier, often between January and March. For STEM OPT extensions, plan to begin the SEVIS recommendation process with your DSO at least 90 days before your current EAD expires.
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
Apple has an active history of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees transitioning off OPT. Sponsorship is role- and team-dependent and is not guaranteed, but Apple files H-1B petitions across engineering, research, and technical program management functions. Confirming your specific role's H-1B history before accepting an offer is the clearest way to assess your path forward.
How does Apple hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Apple can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Apple's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
