Align your degree to BioMarin's pipeline
BioMarin focuses on rare disease therapies, so degrees in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or biostatistics carry the most weight. Frame your coursework and research experience around enzyme replacement or gene therapy applications to match their core therapeutic areas.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Your 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm BioMarin's E-Verify status through the E-Verify employer search before signing any offer, so your extension timeline isn't interrupted after your initial 12 months expire.
Target regulatory and clinical operations roles
BioMarin's regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, and clinical operations teams frequently bring on OPT students with life sciences backgrounds. These functions have recurring project cycles that align well with OPT authorization windows and often feed into longer-term H-1B sponsorship pipelines.
Search verified OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter BioMarin job listings by visa type and review the company's OPT and H-1B hiring patterns. This lets you identify which teams and role types have historically supported international students before you invest time in a full application.
Submit your I-983 training plan before your start date
USCIS requires a completed Form I-983 training plan for STEM OPT, signed by both you and your BioMarin supervisor, before your extension begins. Draft it during the offer negotiation stage so neither your DSO nor your new manager is scrambling at onboarding.
Time your application to BioMarin's hiring cycles
BioMarin typically posts full-time roles in Q1 and Q3 aligned with research project funding cycles. Apply at least four months before your OPT end date so there's enough runway for onboarding and, if applicable, the STEM OPT extension filing with your DSO.
BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. sponsor OPT visas?
BioMarin doesn't sponsor OPT directly, OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something employers petition for. What BioMarin does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, BioMarin must be enrolled in E-Verify, which allows eligible students to extend authorization by 24 months.
Which departments at BioMarin typically hire OPT students?
BioMarin most commonly hires OPT students into research and development, regulatory affairs, clinical operations, biostatistics, and manufacturing science roles. These functions align closely with life sciences and pharmaceutical degree backgrounds. Data science and bioinformatics positions have also become more common as BioMarin expands its rare disease genomics programs.
How do I apply for OPT roles at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.?
Apply through BioMarin's careers portal with your OPT EAD already approved or in process. Disclose your authorization type and end date upfront in your application or cover letter. Coordinate with your DSO to ensure your OPT approval timeline aligns with BioMarin's expected start date before you reach the offer stage.
How do I find OPT-eligible job openings at BioMarin?
Migrate Mate lists BioMarin roles filtered by visa type, so you can identify positions where the company has a track record of hiring OPT students. Searching by department and role type helps you prioritize applications to teams most likely to support your authorization and any future H-1B sponsorship.
Does BioMarin support the H-1B transition after OPT?
BioMarin has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees in scientific and technical roles, making it a viable path from OPT employment. The transition isn't guaranteed, but employees who demonstrate strong performance during their OPT period are better positioned to secure H-1B sponsorship when the annual lottery window opens in March.
How does BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.'s individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
