Align your degree with agricultural roles
OPT authorization is tied to your field of study. Before applying, confirm your degree in agricultural science, agribusiness, environmental management, or a related field directly maps to the role Clayton is hiring for. A misaligned degree can complicate your authorization period.
Verify Clayton's E-Verify enrollment early
If you're on a STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before your 24-month extension begins. Confirm Clayton's enrollment status before accepting an offer, so you're not caught without a qualifying employer when you need the extension most.
Search verified OPT employer data on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by visa type and industry, so you're targeting companies in agriculture and farming that have a real track record of hiring international students. This saves time you'd otherwise spend researching each employer manually across disconnected sources.
Time your application around crop and harvest cycles
Agriculture employers like Clayton often scale hiring around seasonal operations. Target your outreach and applications ahead of planting or harvest seasons, when operational roles in agribusiness, logistics, and land management typically open. Applying outside these windows reduces your chances of landing active interviews.
Prepare your OPT EAD before your start date
Clayton hires students who already hold an approved OPT EAD. USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. Delays in EAD approval can push your start date back, which complicates onboarding with any employer, including Clayton.
Position yourself for an H-1B transition from day one
Agriculture employers that hire OPT students sometimes sponsor H-1B visas for strong performers. When negotiating your role at Clayton, ask about the company's history supporting work visa transitions. Document your contributions during OPT so you're a clear candidate when H-1B sponsorship decisions arise.
Clayton OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Clayton sponsor OPT visas?
Clayton doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to eligible F-1 students, not a visa that employers file for. What Clayton does is hire students who already hold an approved OPT EAD. If you're in agriculture, agribusiness, or a related field, you bring your authorization and Clayton provides the qualifying job.
Which roles at Clayton typically hire OPT students?
Clayton's hiring in agriculture and farming tends to favor candidates with backgrounds in agribusiness, crop science, environmental management, land operations, and agricultural business analysis. Roles in operations, field management, and data-driven farming functions are common entry points for OPT students with relevant degrees in these disciplines.
How do I confirm Clayton qualifies for my STEM OPT extension?
Your DSO needs to verify that your employer is enrolled in E-Verify before authorizing your 24-month STEM OPT extension. Ask Clayton's HR team directly whether they're enrolled in E-Verify and get written confirmation before your standard 12-month OPT period expires. USCIS requires this enrollment as a condition of the extension.
How do I find open OPT roles at Clayton and similar employers?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by visa type and industry, making it easier to find agricultural employers that hire OPT students. Searching by sector narrows your results to companies in farming and agribusiness, so you're not wasting applications on employers with no history of hiring international talent.
Does Clayton sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
Some employers in agriculture do sponsor H-1B visas for workers who performed well during their OPT period, though H-2A visa is the visa type Clayton most commonly sponsors. H-1B sponsorship is employer-driven and requires USCIS approval, a certified Labor Condition Application, and selection in the annual lottery. Ask about H-1B history during your offer negotiation stage.
How does Clayton hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Clayton can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Clayton's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
