Target Comcast's technology and engineering divisions
Comcast's NBCUniversal and Xfinity technology teams hire OPT students most consistently in software engineering, data science, and network infrastructure. Focusing your applications on these divisions puts you in front of hiring managers who already understand OPT timelines and STEM extension requirements.
Verify Comcast's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Comcast participates in E-Verify, but confirm the specific legal entity on your offer letter matches the enrolled employer, since large media conglomerates often have multiple subsidiary entities with separate enrollment statuses.
Search Comcast's LCA filings to gauge role eligibility
Before applying, use Migrate Mate to review Comcast's Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation code. This shows which roles Comcast has actively sponsored for work visas, giving you a realistic picture of which job titles are likely to support an H-1B transition after OPT.
Align your OPT end date with Comcast's hiring cycle
Comcast's campus recruiting peaks in fall for spring graduation and early spring for summer starts. If your OPT EAD expires within six months of a target start date, flag the timeline proactively during interviews so the recruiter can flag you for expedited onboarding rather than losing your offer to administrative delay.
Frame your degree field against your target role clearly
STEM OPT extensions are tied to your CIP code, not just your job title. When applying to Comcast product or analytics roles, confirm that your degree field maps to your position under USCIS STEM designation criteria. Misalignment here is a common reason STEM extension I-983 forms get rejected by DSOs.
Ask recruiters directly about H-1B sponsorship timing
Comcast has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who transition from OPT, but H-1B registration opens in March each year. Ask during the offer stage whether the team supports H-1B sponsorship and what the internal process looks like, so you're not caught off guard by the April cap-subject lottery deadline.
Comcast OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Comcast sponsor OPT visas?
Comcast does not sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants directly to F-1 students, not something an employer files for. What Comcast does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, particularly in its technology, engineering, and product divisions. Comcast is also enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT 24-month extension eligibility.
Which departments at Comcast typically hire OPT students?
Comcast's most active hiring of OPT students happens in software engineering, data engineering, product management, and network technology roles across its Xfinity and NBCUniversal brands. Corporate functions like finance, strategy, and marketing also hire OPT students, though STEM extension eligibility varies depending on whether the specific role qualifies under your degree's CIP code.
How do I know if Comcast will support my STEM OPT extension?
To qualify for a STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and the role must relate to your STEM degree field. Confirm the specific Comcast legal entity on your offer letter is the one enrolled in E-Verify, then work with your DSO to complete Form I-983. USCIS reviews the training plan to ensure the role aligns with your degree.
Does Comcast sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
Comcast has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who completed OPT with the company. H-1B sponsorship is not guaranteed and depends on your team, role, and business need. H-1B registration opens each March for the following October start, so you and your manager need to align on sponsorship well before that deadline during your OPT period.
How do I find OPT-eligible roles at Comcast?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Comcast job listings by OPT eligibility and review the company's visa filing history by role and location. On Comcast's own careers site, filter by early career or internship tracks and look for roles tagged as new graduate or rotational program positions, which tend to have the clearest OPT accommodation processes internally.
How does Comcast hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Comcast can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Comcast's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
