Align your degree to device-specific roles
Evalve's work centers on structural heart technology, so biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and regulatory affairs degrees carry the most weight. Map your coursework to cardiovascular device development or clinical trial support before applying, since these departments drive the most OPT hiring.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Your STEM OPT 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Evalve's recruiter to confirm active E-Verify participation during the offer stage, not after you've signed. This one step protects your eligibility before your 12-month standard OPT period ends.
Target roles with explicit STEM OPT language
Job postings at Evalve that mention STEM OPT eligibility or visa sponsorship signal teams already experienced with the process. Filter for positions in R&D, quality engineering, and clinical operations, where technical degree requirements naturally align with USCIS's STEM-designated classification requirements.
Research Evalve's H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review Evalve's H-1B Labor Condition Application data by job title and location. This shows which roles the company has historically sponsored, helping you position your background toward the departments most likely to support your long-term status transition.
Negotiate your start date around OPT timing
OPT authorization doesn't begin until USCIS approves your EAD card, which can take several weeks. Coordinate your DSO application timeline with Evalve's onboarding window so your EAD is in hand before your first day. Starting without a valid EAD creates unauthorized employment on your record.
Prepare for prevailing wage scrutiny at the H-1B stage
If Evalve sponsors your H-1B after OPT, your offered salary must meet DOL prevailing wage levels for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage tier for your job title in the San Jose area before salary negotiations, so you enter that conversation informed.
Evalve OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Evalve sponsor OPT visas?
Evalve hires F-1 students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document issued by USCIS. The company doesn't file a petition for OPT itself, since OPT is your authorization, not the employer's. What matters is that Evalve is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required if you plan to use the STEM OPT 24-month extension.
Which roles at Evalve are most accessible for OPT students?
Evalve's core work in minimally invasive heart valve repair draws most heavily from biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, clinical affairs, and regulatory affairs backgrounds. OPT students with graduate or undergraduate degrees in these fields tend to find the strongest alignment, particularly in R&D and quality systems roles tied to medical device development.
How do I know if Evalve will support the transition from OPT to H-1B?
The clearest signal is whether Evalve has a history of filing H-1B Labor Condition Applications for roles matching yours. You can check this through Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL filing data by employer, job title, and location. Asking your recruiter directly about their immigration sponsorship policy for full-time hires is also a practical step during the offer stage.
How do I time my OPT application to align with Evalve's hiring process?
You can apply for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date, and USCIS recommends submitting early given processing times. Coordinate with your DSO to submit your I-20 request as soon as you have a realistic start date in mind, so your EAD arrives before Evalve's onboarding window. A gap between your start date and EAD approval creates an unauthorized employment issue.
Does being in a STEM field improve my chances at Evalve specifically?
Yes, in a practical sense. Evalve operates in the medical device and cardiovascular technology space, where most technical roles fall under STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs codes. That means STEM OPT extension eligibility is realistic for a large share of Evalve positions, and the company's E-Verify enrollment is a prerequisite USCIS requires before that extension is approved.
How does Evalve hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Evalve can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Evalve's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
