Target roles matching your degree field
Form Energy's core work spans electrochemistry, mechanical systems, and manufacturing engineering. Map your degree discipline to their open roles using O*NET occupation profiles before applying. A clear degree-to-role match signals specialty occupation eligibility if H-1B sponsorship follows your OPT period.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
Your 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify Form Energy's E-Verify participation status directly through E-Verify. Without confirmed enrollment, USCIS will not approve your STEM extension request, cutting your authorization period short.
Submit your EAD application 90 days early
USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date. Late filing forfeits work authorization time, and Form Energy cannot extend your start date if your EAD arrives late. Build your application timeline backward from your expected offer date.
Use Migrate Mate to research Form Energy's H-1B history
Before committing to an OPT role at Form Energy, check their H-1B filing history by occupation code on Migrate Mate. Seeing whether roles in your function have led to H-1B petitions helps you evaluate the realistic path beyond OPT before you accept the position.
Highlight hardware and energy storage project experience
Form Energy's hiring teams look for direct experience with battery systems, grid-scale storage, or materials testing. Candidates who can demonstrate lab or prototype work relevant to iron-air technology stand out in competitive engineering pipelines against candidates with only academic credentials.
Negotiate your start date around EAD receipt timing
USCIS processing times for OPT EAD cards fluctuate. Communicate your expected EAD receipt date to Form Energy's recruiting team early and get written confirmation that your start date has flexibility. Recruiters at engineering-focused companies generally understand USCIS timelines when you frame the conversation proactively.
Form Energy OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Form Energy sponsor OPT visas?
Form Energy does not sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants to you as an F-1 student. What Form Energy does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For the 24-month STEM OPT extension, Form Energy must be enrolled in E-Verify, which enables you to request the extension through your school's DSO.
Which roles at Form Energy typically hire OPT students?
Form Energy most commonly hires OPT students into engineering roles tied to its core technology: battery cell development, electrochemical systems, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing process engineering. Research and materials science positions also draw candidates from graduate OPT programs. Software and data roles supporting hardware operations are a secondary hiring area for OPT students.
How do I find current OPT-eligible openings at Form Energy?
Search Form Energy's careers page and filter for roles matching your degree discipline. You can also use Migrate Mate to identify Form Energy's active and historical sponsorship patterns by occupation, helping you prioritize roles where OPT students have successfully transitioned to H-1B. Applying through both channels increases your visibility with their recruiting team.
Does Form Energy sponsor H-1B after OPT ends?
Form Energy has sponsored H-1B visas across engineering and technical disciplines, making the OPT-to-H-1B transition a realistic path for strong performers. H-1B sponsorship is not guaranteed and depends on role criticality, your performance, and the annual H-1B lottery. Starting conversations with your manager about long-term sponsorship intent before your OPT period ends is advisable.
How do I time my OPT application to align with a Form Energy offer?
File your OPT EAD application with USCIS no later than 90 days before your program end date. OPT has a 60-day grace period before your authorized employment start date, so coordinate your expected EAD receipt date with Form Energy's recruiting team when you receive an offer. Get written confirmation that your start date has flexibility tied to EAD receipt.
How does Form Energy hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Form Energy can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Form Energy's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
