Align your degree to field operations
Groundworks operates in foundation repair, waterproofing, and crawl space services. Before applying, map your coursework in construction management, civil engineering, or environmental science directly to their field service roles. Recruiters in facilities services screen for technical degree alignment, not just GPA.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Your 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Groundworks's E-Verify status through the official E-Verify employer search before signing any offer letter. Discovering a gap after your 12-month OPT starts costs you extension eligibility.
Target regional operations and project coordinator roles
Groundworks expands through regional acquisitions, which creates recurring openings in project coordination, estimating, and operations support. These roles sit at the intersection of field and business functions, making them realistic entry points for OPT students in engineering or business degree programs.
Search Migrate Mate to find Groundworks OPT openings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Groundworks job listings by OPT eligibility and role type. The platform surfaces roles from employers with active visa filing histories, so you can prioritize applications at locations most likely to support your work authorization without guessing.
Request a written sponsorship timeline in the offer stage
OPT work authorization has fixed windows. When you receive an offer, ask HR directly whether the company has sponsored H-1B for employees who started on OPT and what that transition timeline looks like. Getting this in writing before you accept protects you if your hiring manager changes.
Check prevailing wage for your target role and location
Groundworks operates across multiple states, and prevailing wage rates vary by region and occupation. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your specific role before negotiating your offer. Coming in below the prevailing wage for your area creates problems if you later pursue H-1B sponsorship.
Groundworks OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Groundworks sponsor OPT visas?
Groundworks hires students who already hold OPT work authorization granted by USCIS. The company doesn't sponsor OPT itself since OPT is tied to your F-1 status, not an employer petition. What matters is that Groundworks hires OPT students and has infrastructure for work authorization compliance, including E-Verify enrollment for STEM OPT eligibility.
Which roles at Groundworks are most accessible for OPT students?
OPT students with degrees in civil engineering, construction management, environmental science, or business operations are best positioned at Groundworks. Project coordinator, operations analyst, and field estimator roles align with the company's core services in foundation repair and waterproofing. Regional expansion offices tend to hire more frequently than corporate headquarters for these positions.
How do I confirm Groundworks supports STEM OPT extension?
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. You can verify Groundworks's enrollment status through the official E-Verify employer search tool before accepting an offer. Your DSO also needs to authorize the extension, so confirm your degree's STEM designation with your international student office early in the offer negotiation process.
How do I find OPT-eligible job openings at Groundworks?
Migrate Mate filters employer listings by visa filing history and work authorization type, making it easier to identify Groundworks roles that are realistic for OPT students. Searching directly on Groundworks's careers page won't always surface OPT-relevant filters, so using a visa-aware job platform saves time during your job search.
Does Groundworks sponsor H-1B after OPT for the same employee?
Groundworks has H-2B filing history, which signals active workforce sponsorship activity. Whether the company sponsors H-1B visa for OPT employees who convert depends on the specific role, location, and business unit. Ask directly during your offer stage whether the company has a track record of H-1B sponsorship for employees who joined on OPT, and request specifics in writing.
How does Groundworks hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Groundworks can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Groundworks's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
