Target supply chain and operations roles
Hitachi America's Distribution and Wholesale operations rely heavily on logistics coordination, inventory analysis, and operations support. These functions regularly absorb OPT talent, so prioritizing roles in those teams gives you a stronger foothold than applying broadly across all departments.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify Hitachi America's enrollment status directly through E-Verify, since USCIS will deny your extension application if that requirement isn't met at the time you file.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage data
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for your occupation and region before salary negotiations. Hitachi America will eventually need to meet that threshold for H-1B sponsorship, so starting close to it on OPT avoids a disruptive adjustment when the transition happens.
Research your role's specialty occupation standing
Not every distribution or operations title qualifies as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes. Look up your specific job code on O*NET to confirm it requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, which is the standard USCIS applies during the H-1B adjudication process.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified OPT-hiring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Hitachi America roles filtered by OPT eligibility and DOL Labor Condition Application filing history. This lets you target open positions where the sponsorship infrastructure is already in place rather than discovering gaps after you've accepted an offer.
Initiate the H-1B conversation well before cap registration
H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. Raise sponsorship intent with your manager or HR contact at least six months in advance so the internal approval process, PERM labor testing if required, and attorney engagement don't compress into the weeks before the deadline.
Hitachi America OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hitachi America sponsor OPT visas?
Hitachi America doesn't sponsor OPT itself because OPT is work authorization issued directly to you by USCIS as an F-1 student. What Hitachi America does is hire students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document. The company's H-1B filing history indicates it supports the longer-term visa transition that many OPT hires pursue.
Which departments at Hitachi America typically hire OPT students?
Roles in supply chain operations, logistics coordination, data analysis, and technology support are the most common entry points for OPT students at Hitachi America. The company's Distribution and Wholesale business relies on analytical and operational functions that align well with degrees in engineering, business, and information systems, which are fields OPT candidates frequently hold.
How do I confirm Hitachi America is enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT?
You can check enrollment status directly through the E-Verify system, which maintains a public employer search. Confirm this before your STEM OPT extension application is filed with USCIS, since enrollment must be active at the time of filing. Your designated school official can also assist with verifying the employer's E-Verify status during the I-983 training plan process.
What is the typical timeline from OPT hire to H-1B sponsorship at Hitachi America?
Most OPT students who transition to H-1B do so after at least one year of employment, which gives the employer enough performance history to justify sponsorship internally. Because H-1B cap registration happens only once per year each March, the practical timeline depends heavily on where you are in your OPT period when you're hired. Use Migrate Mate to track employer filing patterns and plan your job search around that window.
How do I strengthen my OPT application to Hitachi America?
Align your resume to the specific technical or operational skills in the job posting and confirm your OPT Employment Authorization Document is current or in process before applying. Demonstrating familiarity with distribution operations, inventory systems, or data workflows relevant to Hitachi America's business significantly increases your profile's relevance to hiring managers evaluating OPT candidates.
How does Hitachi America hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Hitachi America can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Hitachi America's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
