Align your degree to Horrocks's technical disciplines
Horrocks hires heavily in civil engineering, environmental science, and land planning. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps directly to the role's requirements. OPT authorization ties to your field of study, so a mismatch can create complications during onboarding and E-Verify verification.
Time your application around OPT start date windows
USCIS allows you to apply for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date. Apply early enough that your EAD arrives before your intended Horrocks start date. A delayed EAD can push back your offer, so build buffer time into your job search timeline.
Confirm Horrocks is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify Horrocks's E-Verify participation directly with your recruiter or HR contact. Enrolling post-offer takes time, and a gap in enrollment can affect your extension eligibility with USCIS.
Target infrastructure and site planning project teams
Horrocks's project work spans transportation, water resources, and land development. Roles embedded in these teams tend to have recurring technical hiring needs. Framing your resume around specific project types, such as site design or utility coordination, improves your chances of matching an active opening.
Use Migrate Mate to find Horrocks's verified sponsorship history
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL filing data for Horrocks, showing which visa types the firm has historically filed for and in which roles. Use this to confirm sponsorship patterns before your interview and to prioritize departments where OPT-to-H-1B transitions have already occurred.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap deadlines
If Horrocks intends to sponsor your H-1B after OPT, your start date and program end date affect cap-season timing. USCIS H-1B registration opens in March each year, and cap-gap rules protect your status if your OPT expires before October 1. Discuss this timeline explicitly during offer negotiation.
Horrocks OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Horrocks sponsor OPT visas?
Horrocks hires F-1 students who already hold OPT work authorization. OPT itself is granted by USCIS to the student, not petitioned by the employer. What Horrocks provides is employment compatible with your OPT EAD, and the firm supports STEM OPT extension for qualifying roles by participating in E-Verify.
Which roles at Horrocks are most likely to hire OPT students?
Horrocks's core technical teams in civil engineering, environmental planning, transportation, and water resources are the most active areas for OPT hiring. Entry-level and associate-level roles tied to project delivery tend to be the strongest fit for F-1 graduates, particularly those with degrees in engineering or environmental sciences.
How do I confirm my OPT EAD is acceptable to Horrocks's HR team?
Horrocks processes new hire documentation through E-Verify, which validates your EAD automatically during Form I-9 completion. Bring your EAD card and passport to onboarding. If your STEM OPT extension is pending, ask HR whether Horrocks accepts a receipt notice as a bridge document while your new EAD is processing.
What is the typical timeline from OPT offer to H-1B sponsorship at Horrocks?
Most OPT employees who move to H-1B at firms like Horrocks do so after demonstrating performance over one to two years. H-1B cap registration occurs each March, with an October 1 start date if selected. Migrate Mate can help you understand Horrocks's H-1B filing history and plan your transition timeline accordingly.
How do I position my application to stand out for OPT roles at Horrocks?
Emphasize project-specific technical skills aligned to Horrocks's construction and infrastructure work, such as site design, AutoCAD, or GIS. Mention your OPT authorization status and STEM eligibility early in the process. Demonstrating awareness of E-Verify and cap-gap rules signals to hiring managers that you understand the sponsorship process.
How does Horrocks hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Horrocks can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Horrocks's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
