Align your coursework to finance roles
Houlihan Lokey recruits heavily from finance, accounting, and economics programs. Before applying, map your degree coursework to the specific division you're targeting, whether restructuring, valuation, or capital markets, so your OPT EAD authorization clearly matches the role.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Houlihan Lokey's HR team to confirm active enrollment before you sign an offer, since losing this option mid-employment forces an immediate H-1B dependency with no backup authorization period.
Target analyst programs with structured H-1B pipelines
Houlihan Lokey's full-time analyst programs in investment banking and financial restructuring are the most common entry points for OPT hires who later receive H-1B sponsorship. Structured rotational roles signal the firm has an established process for transitioning international students to long-term status.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Houlihan Lokey's H-1B filing history
OPT itself doesn't require employer filing, but H-1B sponsorship after OPT does. Search Houlihan Lokey on Migrate Mate to review its H-1B Labor Condition Application history by role and location, confirming which teams have sponsored international employees before you invest in the recruiting process.
Submit your OPT application 90 days early
USCIS allows you to file your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. Filing early protects against processing delays that could otherwise create a gap between your graduation and your first day at Houlihan Lokey, which the firm's recruiting timeline won't accommodate.
Frame your visa status proactively in interviews
Finance recruiting at Houlihan Lokey moves fast, and hiring teams ask about work authorization early. State clearly that your OPT EAD is already authorized by USCIS, that no employer petition is required for OPT, and that STEM OPT extends your authorization by 24 months pending E-Verify enrollment.
Houlihan Lokey OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Houlihan Lokey sponsor OPT visas?
Houlihan Lokey doesn't sponsor OPT directly because OPT isn't employer-sponsored. USCIS grants OPT authorization to F-1 students, and your EAD lets you work without any petition from Houlihan Lokey. What the firm does do is hire OPT students and, in many cases, sponsor H-1B visas to extend employment beyond the OPT window.
Which roles at Houlihan Lokey are most accessible for OPT students?
Investment banking analyst positions, financial restructuring roles, and corporate finance advisory seats are the most common entry points for OPT hires at Houlihan Lokey. These structured programs recruit directly from university pipelines and have historically supported the OPT-to-H-1B transition for international candidates who perform well in their first two years.
How do I confirm Houlihan Lokey supports the STEM OPT extension?
Ask Houlihan Lokey's HR or recruiting team directly whether the firm is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for any employer supporting a STEM OPT extension. You can also verify enrollment independently through the E-Verify employer search. Do this before accepting an offer if you're relying on the 24-month STEM extension.
How do I find open OPT-friendly roles at Houlihan Lokey?
Search Houlihan Lokey on Migrate Mate to browse open roles filtered for employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history, which signals OPT-to-H-1B pipeline strength. You can also monitor Houlihan Lokey's careers page directly and filter by analyst or associate-level positions, which are the most common OPT entry points.
What's the typical timeline from OPT to H-1B at firms like Houlihan Lokey?
For F-1 students starting on OPT, the H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start. That means if you begin working on OPT in summer or fall, your employer would typically file your H-1B registration in your first or second year. STEM OPT buys additional time if your degree qualifies and Houlihan Lokey is enrolled in E-Verify.
How does Houlihan Lokey hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Houlihan Lokey can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Houlihan Lokey's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
