Align your degree to KLA's core disciplines
KLA's core hiring centers on electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and materials science. Before applying, map your degree field directly to job descriptions using O*NET occupation profiles so your OPT eligibility for each role is immediately clear to KLA's recruiting team.
Confirm KLA's E-Verify enrollment before applying
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. KLA is enrolled, but verify this directly on E-Verify's employer search before accepting any offer, since enrollment status matters the moment your standard 12-month OPT period ends and you need the 24-month extension.
Target KLA's semiconductor process and equipment teams
KLA's highest OPT hiring volume sits in process control, metrology, and yield engineering roles tied to semiconductor manufacturing. Filtering your job search to these technical departments dramatically increases your odds of landing on a team that regularly brings in OPT students and understands authorization timelines.
Use Migrate Mate to identify KLA's H-1B filing history
Knowing which KLA job families have progressed from OPT to H-1B helps you target roles with a proven sponsorship pathway. Migrate Mate surfaces KLA's DOL Labor Condition Application filing data by occupation, so you can see exactly which roles the company has historically moved through to full H-1B sponsorship.
Negotiate your start date around OPT authorization timing
Your OPT EAD sets your earliest legal start date, and KLA's offer letters typically lock in a specific date. Apply to USCIS at least 90 days before graduation so your EAD arrives before your proposed start, giving you clean documentation to present during KLA's onboarding and I-9 verification process.
Prepare for KLA's technical interview before discussing visa status
KLA's engineering interviews prioritize hands-on problem-solving in semiconductor metrology, optics, and process control. Secure your technical interview slot by demonstrating domain knowledge first. Raise your OPT authorization details only after an offer is on the table, when HR initiates the formal I-9 and E-Verify workflow.
KLA OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does KLA sponsor OPT visas?
KLA does not sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS directly to F-1 students, not petitioned by employers. What KLA does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD, and for STEM OPT extensions it meets the E-Verify enrollment requirement that USCIS mandates.
Which departments at KLA typically hire OPT students?
KLA's strongest OPT hiring is concentrated in engineering functions tied to semiconductor equipment: process control engineering, optical metrology, yield engineering, embedded software, and mechanical design. These teams work directly on KLA's core product lines, and they recruit OPT students from graduate programs in electrical engineering, materials science, and computer science.
How do I apply for OPT jobs at KLA as an F-1 student?
Apply through KLA's careers portal and filter for roles matching your degree field. You'll need a valid OPT EAD or documented authorization timeline before your start date. During onboarding, KLA completes I-9 verification and E-Verify enrollment confirmation. Use Migrate Mate to cross-reference which KLA roles have a documented track record of progressing to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the typical timeline for OPT authorization when starting at KLA?
USCIS recommends filing your OPT application at least 90 days before your program end date. EAD processing currently averages three to five months, so early filing is critical. Your EAD start date must precede your first day at KLA. For the 24-month STEM extension, you must file with USCIS before your initial OPT EAD expires.
Does KLA support the transition from OPT to H-1B sponsorship?
KLA has an active history of sponsoring H-1B petitions for OPT employees who demonstrate strong performance, particularly in its core semiconductor engineering teams. The H-1B is a separate employer-sponsored petition filed with USCIS, subject to the annual lottery. Securing a role in a high-sponsorship department and building your technical track record early strengthens your case for that transition.
How does KLA hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. KLA can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check KLA's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
