Target design and product roles first
Knoll's OPT hiring concentrates in design, materials development, and product management functions. F-1 graduates with portfolios demonstrating textile, furniture, or commercial interior design experience align most directly with the roles where Knoll actively brings on OPT students.
Align your degree field to the posting
OPT authorization is tied to your degree field, so confirm your role falls within your CIP code before applying. Knoll roles in brand management or merchandising may require industrial design, fashion merchandising, or business credentials. A mismatch can jeopardize your OPT eligibility mid-employment.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Knoll's HR team to confirm active enrollment before you sign. If your degree qualifies as STEM-designated, losing that extension option is a significant setback to your post-graduation timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to research Knoll's H-1B history
Knoll's track record converting OPT hires to H-1B matters as much as landing the initial role. Migrate Mate surfaces Knoll's Labor Condition Application filing history by job title, so you can see which positions have led to H-1B sponsorship before you invest time in the interview process.
Submit your OPT EAD before your program end date
USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. Processing currently runs several weeks, and you can't begin working until your EAD arrives. Starting late creates a gap that forces you to delay your Knoll start date or lose the offer entirely.
Negotiate your start date around OPT cap-out timing
Standard OPT authorizes 12 months total, and any pre-completion OPT usage counts against that cap. If you did co-op or internship OPT at another employer, calculate remaining authorization before committing to a Knoll start date. Discuss flexibility with your DSO to protect your full authorized period.
Knoll OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Knoll sponsor OPT visas?
Knoll doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to the F-1 student, not a visa the employer files for. What Knoll does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. The sponsorship question that matters most is whether Knoll will later sponsor your H-1B, which its hiring history suggests it does for qualifying roles.
Which departments at Knoll typically hire OPT students?
Knoll's OPT-friendly hiring tends to concentrate in design, product development, and brand functions, where F-1 graduates from industrial design, fashion merchandising, and business programs fit the work. Corporate roles in marketing and operations also appear. Your best signal is checking current job postings for roles that match your degree field and CIP code.
How do I confirm Knoll will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask HR directly whether Knoll is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting an offer. STEM OPT requires active E-Verify participation by the employer. If Knoll isn't enrolled, you can't extend beyond your initial 12-month OPT period. Getting written confirmation early protects you from discovering this gap after you've already started.
How do I find out if Knoll has sponsored H-1B for OPT hires?
Migrate Mate aggregates DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and job title, so you can see Knoll's H-1B filing history for specific roles before your interview. This tells you whether the position you're targeting has a realistic H-1B path, not just whether Knoll sponsors in general.
How do I time my OPT application to align with a Knoll start date?
File with USCIS up to 90 days before your program end date and request an OPT start date that matches your expected Knoll offer. You can't work until your EAD arrives, so building buffer into your timeline is essential. Coordinate with your DSO early, since any adjustment to your requested start date requires a new I-20 and resubmission.
How does Knoll hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Knoll can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Knoll's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
