Target engineering and supply chain roles
Leggett & Platt's strongest OPT hiring tends to cluster in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, and operations roles tied to its manufacturing divisions. Filter your job search by these functions first, since corporate and support roles have thinner OPT placement history at manufacturers like Leggett & Platt.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before you sign an offer, verify Leggett & Platt's enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search, so your STEM extension eligibility isn't at risk after you've already started.
Align your degree field to the job description
USCIS requires your OPT role to be directly related to your degree's major field of study. For manufacturing roles at Leggett & Platt, cross-check the job's required qualifications against O*NET to confirm the occupational match before you apply, not after you receive an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to check H-1B sponsorship history
OPT is your authorization, but your longer-term goal is usually H-1B. Use Migrate Mate to review Leggett & Platt's H-1B LCA filing history by role and location, so you can assess which business units have consistently sponsored the transition before you commit to a position.
Negotiate your start date around OPT timing
Your OPT EAD has a fixed start date set during DSO authorization, and you can't begin work before it. When discussing start dates with Leggett & Platt recruiters, give yourself a realistic buffer between graduation, USCIS processing, and EAD receipt to avoid a gap that delays your first day.
Prepare your prevailing wage benchmark in advance
Before your offer negotiation, run your target role's wage level against the OFLC Wage Search for Leggett & Platt's hiring location. Knowing the prevailing wage for your occupation and experience level helps you evaluate whether an offer is competitive and positions you for a compliant H-1B filing later.
Leggett & Platt OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Leggett & Platt sponsor OPT visas?
Leggett & Platt does not sponsor OPT directly, because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to you as an F-1 student, not something an employer files for. What Leggett & Platt does is hire students who already have an OPT EAD. Its H-1B sponsorship history across engineering and operations roles indicates it's an OPT-compatible employer willing to support the longer-term transition.
Which departments at Leggett & Platt are most likely to hire OPT students?
Engineering, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and product development are the functions where Leggett & Platt has the deepest technical hiring footprint. These roles align closely with STEM degree fields, which matters because STEM OPT students can access the 24-month extension only when the job directly relates to their field of study and the employer is E-Verify enrolled.
How do I apply for OPT jobs at Leggett & Platt?
Apply through Leggett & Platt's careers page and filter for roles in engineering or operations that match your degree field. Before applying, confirm your OPT EAD is active or that your timeline allows for USCIS processing before your preferred start date. You can also use Migrate Mate to identify which Leggett & Platt locations have the strongest sponsorship track record for your target role.
How long does the OPT hiring process take at Leggett & Platt?
The hiring timeline at Leggett & Platt varies by division, but manufacturing companies typically run multi-round interview processes that can take four to eight weeks from application to offer. Add USCIS processing time for your OPT EAD if you haven't received it yet, since you legally cannot start work until your EAD is in hand and the authorized start date has passed.
Does Leggett & Platt sponsor H-1B after OPT?
Leggett & Platt has an active H-1B sponsorship history, which is one of the most reliable signals that a manufacturing employer will support the OPT-to-H-1B transition for strong performers. H-1B is a separate employer-sponsored petition filed with USCIS, subject to the annual cap and lottery. Confirming sponsorship willingness during your offer negotiation is the right time to raise it, not after you start.
How does Leggett & Platt hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Leggett & Platt can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Leggett & Platt's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
