Title: Specialist I, Operations
Location: Lansing, MI
Summary
This position supports shop floor continuous improvement activities through data tracking, system support, and cross-functional collaboration. The role assists with monitoring operational performance, supporting Lean Manufacturing activities, and helping implement improvement initiatives across the business.
This role works closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to support operational efficiency, maintain audit readiness, and assist with continuous improvement activities including ECRS, 5S3R, and DSM (Defect Source Map) activities.
Responsibilities:
- Support shop floor continuous improvement activities and operational initiatives
- Collect, track, and analyze operational and shop floor data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Assist with preparing reports, dashboards, and visual tracking tools using Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, or similar systems
- Support DSM (Defect Source Map) preparation, tracking, and reporting activities
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives including ECRS and 5S3R programs
- Participate in 5S3R and continuous improvement audits on the shop floor
- Assist with tracking and reporting measurable improvement activities and results
- Support maintenance and optimization of operational systems and digital platforms
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency across systems and reports
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to support process improvements
- Support Layered Process Audits (LPA) and internal audit activities
- Participate in customer and internal audit preparation activities
- Assist with training employees on systems, processes, and continuous improvement activities
- Communicate findings, updates, and improvement activities clearly with team members and leadership
- Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
- Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
- Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, Communications, or related field preferred; or equivalent relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment preferred
- Ability and experience designing and delivering training modules or workshops preferred
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams preferred
- Experience supporting system automation, digital platforms, dashboards, or AI-driven resource tools preferred
Skills
- Basic to intermediate data analysis and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
