Align your degree to MGM's specialty roles
MGM's OPT hires tend to cluster in hospitality management, data analytics, finance, and IT. Before applying, verify your degree field maps directly to the job description, since specialty occupation alignment affects your eventual H-1B eligibility with the same employer.
Confirm MGM's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. MGM Resorts is a large federal contractor, so enrollment is standard, but ask HR to confirm the specific legal entity you'll be hired under matches the E-Verify registration before signing an offer.
Target casino operations and corporate headquarters roles
MGM's corporate functions in Las Vegas, Maryland, and Massachusetts handle most professional OPT hiring. Roles in revenue management, cybersecurity, and financial planning are more likely to sit within teams that have supported international employees and understand OPT timelines than property-level hospitality positions.
Search MGM's verified OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter MGM Resorts' open roles by OPT eligibility and review their DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation. This shows which job titles MGM has previously supported for work authorization transitions, letting you prioritize applications where precedent already exists.
Time your application around your OPT start date
OPT authorization begins no earlier than your program end date, and USCIS recommends filing at least 90 days before your intended start. Communicate your exact EAD start date to MGM's recruiter early so your offer letter and start date align with your USCIS-issued Employment Authorization Document.
Ask HR about MGM's H-1B sponsorship policy upfront
MGM has filed H-1B petitions across multiple departments, but sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, not company-wide. Ask directly during the offer stage whether your specific team has a history of sponsoring H-1B for OPT students who convert to full-time roles.
MGM Resorts International OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does MGM Resorts International sponsor OPT visas?
MGM Resorts International doesn't sponsor OPT, because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants directly to F-1 students, not something employers petition for. What MGM does is hire students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document. MGM is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT students seeking the 24-month extension.
Which departments at MGM Resorts typically hire OPT students?
MGM's corporate divisions in technology, finance, data analytics, and revenue management are the most active areas for OPT-eligible hiring. Property-level roles in hospitality operations exist but are less likely to involve teams familiar with international work authorization. Targeting MGM's corporate headquarters locations gives you the strongest chance of finding OPT-compatible positions.
How do I confirm my OPT EAD is accepted before my MGM start date?
Once USCIS approves your OPT application, share your EAD card details with MGM's HR or I-9 compliance team before your first day. MGM will record your authorization through their E-Verify system. Your start date must fall within your EAD validity period, so align your offer letter date with your USCIS-issued employment start date.
Does MGM Resorts sponsor H-1B visas for OPT employees?
MGM Resorts has an H-1B filing history across multiple business units, but sponsorship isn't guaranteed for every OPT hire. Decisions are made at the department level based on role criticality and headcount. Raise the H-1B question during the offer negotiation stage, and use Migrate Mate to review MGM's LCA filing history by occupation before your interview.
How do I find OPT-eligible job openings at MGM Resorts?
Search MGM's careers portal filtered by location and job function, then cross-reference openings against MGM's work authorization history. Look for roles in departments where MGM has previously filed Labor Condition Applications, as those teams have existing processes for supporting international employees. Applying to roles with clear specialty occupation criteria strengthens your path to an H-1B transition later.
How does MGM Resorts International hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. MGM Resorts International can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check MGM Resorts International's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
