Target operations and engineering roles first
Penske's core hiring for OPT students sits in fleet operations, industrial engineering, and supply chain management. These functions align with STEM-designated CIP codes, so securing one of these roles positions you for the 24-month STEM OPT extension from day one.
Verify your role qualifies for STEM OPT
Not every Penske role triggers STEM OPT eligibility. Cross-check your job title against your degree's CIP code before accepting an offer. Use O*NET to confirm the occupation aligns, then confirm with your DSO that your degree program qualifies before your initial OPT period ends.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before signing
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Penske's recruiter or HR contact to confirm active E-Verify participation during the offer stage, not after you start. USCIS requires this enrollment as a condition of the 24-month extension approval.
Align your OPT start date with Penske's hiring cycle
Penske recruits heavily in spring for summer start dates, which lines up well with May and June OPT authorizations. Apply three to four months before your target start date so your EAD approval window matches the onboarding timeline without leaving an authorization gap.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Penske H-1B filing history
Your OPT period is your window to build the case for H-1B sponsorship. Search Penske's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and locations the company has sponsored, then use that data to target the right role from the start.
Document your technical contributions throughout OPT
Penske's H-1B petitions lean on specialty occupation evidence, which starts with what you accomplish during OPT. Keep records of projects, systems you worked on, and engineering decisions you made. This documentation directly supports your employer's I-129 petition if they sponsor you later.
Penske Truck Leasing OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Penske Truck Leasing sponsor OPT visas?
Penske Truck Leasing hires students who already hold an OPT EAD issued by USCIS. The company does not petition for OPT itself since OPT authorization comes directly from USCIS to the student. Penske is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required if you plan to use the 24-month STEM OPT extension during your employment there.
Which departments at Penske Truck Leasing typically hire OPT students?
Penske most actively hires OPT students into fleet operations, industrial engineering, supply chain, and logistics management functions. These roles align with STEM-designated degree programs in engineering, operations research, and business analytics, which matters if you need your position to qualify for the STEM OPT extension before your initial authorization period ends.
How do I know if my Penske role qualifies for the STEM OPT extension?
Your STEM OPT eligibility depends on your degree's CIP code, not just your job title. Verify the match using O*NET and confirm with your DSO before your initial OPT period ends. You can also search Penske's LCA filing history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles the company has historically supported for visa sponsorship purposes.
What is the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at Penske Truck Leasing?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If Penske agrees to sponsor you, your employer must register you in USCIS's lottery system by the March deadline. With STEM OPT, your cap-gap protection covers you from October 1 through the remainder of your extension if your petition is selected and timely filed.
How do I approach Penske Truck Leasing about H-1B sponsorship after starting on OPT?
Raise the H-1B conversation with your manager or HR business partner no later than your first fall after starting, so there is time to prepare before the March registration window. Come prepared with documentation of your role's specialty occupation requirements and any project work that demonstrates technical contributions, since that evidence forms the foundation of the petition.
How does Penske Truck Leasing hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Penske Truck Leasing can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Penske Truck Leasing's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
