INTRODUCTION
Founded in 1977 as the Senior Care Action Network, SCAN began with a simple but radical idea: that older adults deserve to stay healthy and independent. That belief was championed by a group of community activists we still honor today as the “12 Angry Seniors.” Their mission continues to guide everything we do.
Today, SCAN is a nonprofit health organization serving more than 500,000 people across Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington, with over $8 billion in annual revenue. With nearly five decades of experience, we have built a distinctive, values-driven platform dedicated to improving care for older adults.
Our work spans Medicare Advantage, fully integrated care models, primary care, care for the most medically and socially complex populations, and next-generation care delivery models. Across all of this, we are united by a shared commitment: combining compassion with discipline, innovation with stewardship, and growth with integrity.
At SCAN, we believe scale should strengthen—not dilute—our mission. We are building the future of care for older adults, grounded in purpose, accountability, and respect for the people and communities we serve.

Target SCAN's data and analytics teams
SCAN Health Plan's technology and health informatics divisions are among its most active hiring areas for degree-level candidates. Tailor your application to roles involving claims data, population health analytics, or care management systems, where your academic background directly maps to the work.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before you sign an offer, verify SCAN Health Plan's E-Verify status through the official E-Verify employer search so your extension eligibility isn't at risk after your initial OPT period ends.
Align your resume to specialty occupation standards
SCAN Health Plan has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas, so frame your OPT credentials with that transition in mind. Emphasize degree-specific skills that support a specialty occupation argument in healthcare operations or IT, which strengthens both your OPT hire case and future H-1B filing.
Research prevailing wages for your target role
Before negotiating your offer, look up your occupation's wage level using the OFLC Wage Search and cross-reference it with Bureau of Labor Statistics data for the Southern California market. Insurance-sector employers like SCAN must meet prevailing wage standards if they later file an H-1B, so knowing the benchmarks protects you.
Use Migrate Mate to find active OPT employers
Search for SCAN Health Plan on Migrate Mate to see its verified visa sponsorship history by occupation and role type. This lets you identify which departments at SCAN have the strongest track record of hiring international graduates before you invest time in the application process.
Time your DSO reporting around your start date
Your Designated School Official must update your SEVIS record before you can begin working. Coordinate your I-20 OPT authorization and your SCAN Health Plan start date carefully, since USCIS requires employment to begin within the authorized OPT window to avoid jeopardizing your status.
SCAN Health Plan OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does SCAN Health Plan sponsor OPT visas?
SCAN Health Plan hires F-1 students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document, which USCIS grants directly to the student. SCAN doesn't file a petition for OPT itself, but it does employ OPT workers across health operations, data, and technology roles, and has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for qualifying employees afterward.
Which roles and departments at SCAN Health Plan are most likely to hire OPT students?
SCAN Health Plan's strongest hiring areas for degree-level international graduates tend to be in data analytics, health informatics, care management, and IT operations. These functions align with the specialty occupation criteria that also support an H-1B filing down the line, making them practical targets for OPT candidates seeking long-term sponsorship.
How do I confirm SCAN Health Plan will support my STEM OPT extension?
The 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify and to sign a formal training plan with you. Confirm SCAN Health Plan's E-Verify enrollment through the official E-Verify employer search before accepting any offer. Your DSO at your university then submits the extension request to USCIS on your behalf.
What is the typical timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at SCAN Health Plan?
If SCAN Health Plan agrees to sponsor your H-1B, your employer must file during the annual cap registration window in March for an October 1 start date. With STEM OPT, you have up to 36 months of total work authorization, giving you multiple registration cycles. Migrate Mate can help you track SCAN's H-1B filing history by role to set realistic expectations.
How do I approach the interview process at SCAN Health Plan as an OPT candidate?
Be transparent about your OPT authorization status and end date early in the process. SCAN Health Plan's HR teams are familiar with work authorization requirements in the insurance sector, but you should confirm STEM OPT eligibility for your specific role and degree. Use O*NET to verify your occupation code matches a STEM-designated field before your final interview.
How does SCAN Health Plan hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. SCAN Health Plan can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check SCAN Health Plan's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
