Target Schindler's field service engineering roles
Schindler's U.S. operations center on elevator installation, maintenance, and modernization, so field service and mechanical engineering roles align most directly with OPT hiring. Research open requisitions in those divisions before applying to roles outside Schindler's core manufacturing and service footprint.
Verify your STEM OPT extension eligibility early
If your degree is in engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field, confirm your program's CIP code qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Schindler must be enrolled in E-Verify to support that extension, so ask recruiters about E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wages
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your target role and location before negotiating. Schindler's manufacturing roles carry specific prevailing wage floors that will matter when your employer later files an LCA for H-1B sponsorship, so starting above Level I protects your transition timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Schindler's H-1B filing history
Understanding Schindler's H-1B sponsorship record tells you how seriously they support the OPT-to-H-1B transition. Migrate Mate surfaces Schindler's LCA filing history by role and location, so you can see which job titles and offices have the strongest sponsorship track record before you apply.
Frame your application around Schindler's project timelines
Schindler runs multi-year installation and modernization projects, so hiring managers value candidates who can commit through a full OPT authorization window. Clearly communicate your OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility in your cover letter so recruiters can plan around your work authorization without guessing.
Raise the H-1B transition conversation during the offer stage
Ask directly during offer negotiations whether Schindler has sponsored H-1B visas for employees in your specific role or department. Getting a clear answer before you accept, not after your first year, lets you plan your USCIS registration window and avoid accepting a position where sponsorship is technically possible but practically unlikely.
Schindler OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Schindler sponsor OPT visas?
Schindler doesn't sponsor OPT directly, because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something employers petition for. What Schindler does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, particularly in engineering and technical roles. For STEM OPT extensions, Schindler must be enrolled in E-Verify, which you should confirm with the recruiting team before accepting an offer.
Which departments at Schindler are most likely to hire OPT students?
Schindler's field service engineering, mechanical engineering, and operations teams are the most consistent sources of OPT-eligible roles, reflecting the company's core business in elevator installation and modernization. Software and controls engineering roles also appear, particularly in Schindler's technology and innovation divisions. Manufacturing and supply chain positions are less common entry points for OPT candidates.
How do I confirm Schindler supports the STEM OPT extension?
Ask the Schindler recruiter or HR contact directly whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify, which is a USCIS requirement for employers supporting the 24-month STEM OPT extension. You can also search the E-Verify employer database independently. Confirm this before signing your offer, since your DSO will need that information to process your extension application with USCIS.
How do I find OPT jobs at Schindler with a clear path to H-1B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate surfaces Schindler's LCA and H-1B filing history by role and office location, so you can identify which positions have a genuine sponsorship track record rather than relying on general recruiter assurances. Cross-reference those roles with Schindler's current job postings to target applications where OPT hiring and H-1B sponsorship have both occurred for similar titles.
What timeline should I plan for the OPT-to-H-1B transition at Schindler?
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start date, so your OPT must still be valid through that registration window. If you start at Schindler on OPT and qualify for the STEM extension, you could have up to three years of work authorization to complete two full H-1B registration cycles. Discuss your anticipated start date with Schindler HR early so they can align their sponsorship planning with your USCIS deadlines.
How does Schindler hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Schindler can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Schindler's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
