Align your degree to Stifel's roles
Stifel hires OPT students in finance, data analytics, and technology functions. Map your degree field directly to open roles before applying, since USCIS ties OPT authorization to your major, and misaligned applications rarely advance past initial screening at financial services firms.
Confirm Stifel's E-Verify enrollment early
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Stifel's recruiting team about E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer so you can plan your 27-month OPT timeline and H-1B transition without gaps in work authorization.
Research prevailing wages before salary talks
Before your offer negotiation, run your target role through the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for your job title and location. Stifel's future H-1B sponsorship will require meeting that wage, so accepting below it now can create complications at the petition stage.
Use Migrate Mate to target verified OPT employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Stifel Financial Corp. roles that match your OPT authorization period and degree field. The platform surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which teams at financial services firms have active sponsorship history before you apply.
Submit your I-983 training plan before day one
If you're on STEM OPT, USCIS requires a completed Form I-983 training plan signed by both you and your Stifel supervisor before your extension begins. Delays in getting manager sign-off are the most common reason STEM OPT students miss their extension start date.
Build your H-1B case during your OPT year
Stifel's visa sponsorship typically extends to H-1B for strong performers. Use your OPT period to document your specialty occupation duties clearly, since your role description will form the core of any future H-1B petition. Ask your manager to frame your responsibilities in degree-specific language from the start.
Stifel Financial Corp. OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Stifel Financial Corp. sponsor OPT visas?
Stifel Financial Corp. does not sponsor OPT visas, because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants directly to F-1 students, not something employers petition for. What Stifel does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, Stifel needs to be enrolled in E-Verify, which enables the 24-month extension period.
Which departments at Stifel Financial Corp. typically hire OPT students?
Stifel's investment banking, wealth management technology, data analytics, and operations divisions are the most common entry points for OPT hires. Roles in financial analysis, software engineering, and compliance support tend to align well with the degree fields USCIS ties to OPT authorization in finance and technology programs.
How do I apply for an OPT position at Stifel Financial Corp.?
Apply through Stifel's careers portal with your OPT EAD in hand or your OPT application already filed with USCIS. Disclose your authorization type and end date upfront, and confirm with the recruiting team whether your target role qualifies for STEM OPT if your degree falls under a STEM-designated program. Migrate Mate can help you identify roles matched to your authorization window.
How long does the OPT hiring process typically take at Stifel Financial Corp.?
Stifel's hiring timelines vary by division, but most OPT candidates move from application to offer within four to eight weeks for analyst and associate-level roles. Factor in that your OPT EAD takes USCIS up to five months to process, so apply for OPT through your DSO at least 90 days before your program end date to avoid any gap.
Does Stifel Financial Corp. sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
Stifel Financial Corp. has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas, and OPT hires who demonstrate strong performance in specialty occupation roles are frequently considered for H-1B sponsorship. Starting the conversation with your manager well before the H-1B cap registration window in March gives you the best chance of being included in that year's filing cycle.
How does Stifel Financial Corp. hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Stifel Financial Corp. can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Stifel Financial Corp.'s individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
