Align your degree to Swinerton's core disciplines
Swinerton's OPT hires cluster in civil engineering, construction management, and mechanical or electrical engineering. Pull up the O*NET profile for your target role and confirm your degree field maps directly, hiring managers check this when evaluating OPT eligibility before extending an offer.
Confirm Swinerton's E-Verify enrollment before applying
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before you reach the offer stage, verify Swinerton's enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool so you're not caught off guard when negotiating your start date or extension timeline.
Target project-based roles tied to active contracts
Swinerton staffs heavily around awarded construction contracts. Roles in project engineering, estimating, and field supervision open in bursts when new projects kick off. Track their regional office postings rather than headquarters listings to find positions with the most active OPT hiring momentum.
Build a construction-specific resume before outreach
Swinerton recruiters screen for hands-on project experience, not just coursework. Lead your resume with internship site work, capstone construction projects, or any field exposure. Quantify scope in square footage or contract value rather than academic terms to match the language their hiring teams use.
Use Migrate Mate to find Swinerton's H-1B filing history
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which roles and office locations Swinerton has historically sponsored for H-1B. Use that data to target teams where the OPT-to-H-1B transition is already an established pattern, not an untested ask.
Negotiate your start date around OPT authorization timing
USCIS can take up to 90 days to process an OPT EAD. Submit your application as early as 90 days before your program end date so your EAD arrives before Swinerton's intended onboarding date. Delays in EAD receipt can push your start date back and complicate offer acceptance.
Swinerton OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Swinerton sponsor OPT visas?
Swinerton doesn't sponsor OPT directly, USCIS grants OPT work authorization to F-1 students, not employers. What Swinerton does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, Swinerton must be enrolled in E-Verify, which enables the 24-month extension that keeps you authorized while H-1B sponsorship is pursued.
Which roles at Swinerton typically support OPT students?
OPT hires at Swinerton tend to concentrate in project engineering, construction management, estimating, and field supervision. These roles align with degrees in civil engineering, construction management, and related STEM fields. Corporate functions like finance or HR occasionally hire OPT students, but the strongest pipeline runs through technical and field-facing positions.
How do I know if Swinerton will support my H-1B after OPT?
Swinerton has sponsored H-1B visas across multiple visa categories, which signals an established immigration infrastructure. Use Migrate Mate to review their DOL Labor Condition Application history by role and location. During the offer process, ask directly whether the team has an established pattern of sponsoring the H-1B for OPT employees in that specific role.
How do I time my OPT application when targeting a Swinerton offer?
File your OPT application through your DSO up to 90 days before your program end date. USCIS processing can take the full 90-day window, so submitting early protects your Swinerton start date. If your EAD hasn't arrived by your intended first day, your employer cannot legally onboard you, which can complicate an otherwise accepted offer.
What should I ask Swinerton during the interview about OPT and immigration support?
Ask whether the team has previously hired employees on OPT and whether they have an in-house immigration contact or work with an external immigration counsel. Confirm their E-Verify enrollment for STEM OPT purposes. A team that has navigated OPT-to-H-1B transitions before will answer these questions directly and without hesitation.
How does Swinerton hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Swinerton can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Swinerton's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
