Target corporate roles over store positions
The Tile Shop's OPT hires tend to cluster in corporate functions like merchandising, supply chain, and marketing rather than in-store retail. Focusing your search on the Minneapolis headquarters increases your odds of landing a role aligned with your degree field.
Verify your degree field matches the role
OPT requires your job to be directly related to your field of study. For a retail company like The Tile Shop, roles in business analytics, logistics, or interior design typically satisfy USCIS's relatedness requirement. Document the connection explicitly in your offer letter request.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
If you're on STEM OPT, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask The Tile Shop's HR team to confirm active enrollment before signing. STEM OPT extensions are invalid without it, and discovering this after starting creates serious authorization gaps.
Research The Tile Shop's H-1B history on Migrate Mate
Before your OPT ends, you'll want to know if The Tile Shop has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas. Use Migrate Mate to check their H-1B filing history by role and year, so you can evaluate the OPT-to-H-1B transition realistically before accepting a position.
Negotiate your start date around EAD receipt
Your OPT EAD must be in hand before your first day of work. USCIS recommends applying at least 90 days before your program end date. Build this timeline into your offer negotiation so The Tile Shop isn't waiting on a delayed card to onboard you.
Align your job title with your O*NET classification
When USCIS reviews OPT authorization, job titles that map cleanly to recognized O*NET occupation codes face fewer complications. Ask The Tile Shop to use a standard title like 'Business Analyst' or 'Supply Chain Coordinator' rather than a vague internal label that's harder to defend.
The Tile Shop OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does The Tile Shop sponsor OPT visas?
The Tile Shop doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS to F-1 students, not a visa employers file for. What The Tile Shop does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. If you have valid OPT authorization and a qualifying degree, you're eligible to work there without any employer petition.
Which departments at The Tile Shop typically hire OPT students?
OPT hires at The Tile Shop are most common in corporate functions such as marketing, merchandising, business analytics, and supply chain management. These roles require degree-level work that satisfies USCIS's relatedness requirement for OPT. In-store retail positions are less likely to qualify because they're harder to tie directly to most academic fields of study.
How do I confirm The Tile Shop is enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT?
Ask The Tile Shop's HR team directly whether the company is actively enrolled in E-Verify before accepting an offer. You can also search the E-Verify employer database to verify enrollment status. STEM OPT requires active E-Verify participation from day one, so confirming this before you sign is a required step, not an optional precaution.
What is the typical timeline for starting work at The Tile Shop on OPT?
You can begin working at The Tile Shop on the start date printed on your OPT EAD, as long as your program end date has passed or the start date is within 90 days of program completion. USCIS processing for OPT EADs can take several months, so applying early and communicating your availability window to The Tile Shop's recruiter prevents unnecessary delays.
Does The Tile Shop sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
The Tile Shop has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas, which makes it a realistic path for OPT students seeking long-term status. You can research their H-1B filing history by role and department using Migrate Mate before committing to a position. Raising the H-1B conversation early, ideally during your offer negotiation, gives you time to plan around the April lottery deadline.
How does The Tile Shop hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. The Tile Shop can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check The Tile Shop's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
