Target roles matching your degree field
Thrivent hires OPT students into roles in actuarial analysis, financial planning, data science, and software engineering. Confirm your degree field directly supports the job title, since USCIS requires OPT employment to relate to your program of study to remain valid.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting
If you hold a STEM degree and plan to apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, confirm Thrivent is enrolled in E-Verify before signing an offer. STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be an active E-Verify participant at the time of your application.
Research Thrivent's OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to see which roles and departments at Thrivent have historically welcomed OPT students. Filtering by visa type and job function helps you target your application toward teams already familiar with the OPT hiring process.
Align your start date with your EAD window
OPT work authorization can begin up to 90 days before your program end date but no earlier than the date printed on your EAD. Coordinate your Thrivent offer letter start date carefully, since working before your EAD validity date is a status violation.
Ask HR about the H-1B transition timeline early
Thrivent operates in a regulated financial services environment where staffing decisions follow structured timelines. Raise the H-1B sponsorship conversation during the offer stage, not after onboarding, so both you and the hiring team can plan around the annual April registration window.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Investment and asset management roles at Thrivent are subject to prevailing wage standards once you transition to H-1B. Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating salary so your offer is already within the range Thrivent will need to certify.
Thrivent Financial For Lutherans OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thrivent Financial For Lutherans sponsor OPT visas?
Thrivent doesn't sponsor OPT directly, because OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something an employer files. What Thrivent does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD. If your EAD is active and your role relates to your degree field, you're eligible to work there on OPT.
Which roles at Thrivent Financial For Lutherans typically hire OPT students?
Thrivent most commonly hires OPT students into quantitative and analytical roles, including actuarial science, data analytics, financial analysis, and software engineering. Technology and digital transformation teams also bring in OPT talent. Roles requiring licensure, such as financial advisors, are less common entry points for OPT students due to state licensing timelines.
How do I find open OPT roles at Thrivent Financial For Lutherans?
Search Thrivent's careers page and filter by job type or department. For a filtered view of roles at companies with OPT hiring history, Migrate Mate surfaces positions at employers that have consistently supported F-1 students, making it easier to focus your search on receptive hiring teams.
How do I confirm Thrivent Financial For Lutherans supports STEM OPT extensions?
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify and to sign a formal training plan with your DSO. Before accepting an offer, ask Thrivent's HR team directly whether the company is an active E-Verify participant. Your DSO will need this confirmation before submitting the STEM OPT extension request to USCIS.
How do I approach the H-1B conversation with Thrivent Financial For Lutherans?
Raise H-1B visa sponsorship during the offer negotiation stage, not after you've started. Thrivent, as a structured financial services employer, plans headcount decisions well in advance. The H-1B registration window opens in March for an October 1 start, so your employer needs to commit months before the deadline. Early alignment avoids last-minute surprises.
How does Thrivent Financial For Lutherans hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Thrivent Financial For Lutherans can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Thrivent Financial For Lutherans's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
