Target roles aligned with your degree
Tyson Foods hires OPT students most consistently in food science, chemical engineering, supply chain, and data analytics. Cross-reference your degree field with open roles before applying, a direct match between your major and the job function strengthens your OPT eligibility argument significantly.
Verify Tyson's E-Verify enrollment early
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Tyson Foods participates in E-Verify, which makes the 24-month STEM extension accessible if your role qualifies. Confirm this with your hiring contact before accepting an offer so your DSO can file the I-983 on time.
Use Migrate Mate to find active Tyson roles
Migrate Mate filters job listings by OPT compatibility and employer work authorization history, so you can identify which Tyson Foods positions are realistically open to F-1 students. Search by department and location to find roles where Tyson has a track record of hiring international students.
Start your OPT EAD application 90 days early
USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date. Delays in EAD issuance can push back your start date with Tyson, so coordinate your DSO authorization and USCIS filing timeline before you accept any offer.
Negotiate a start date that fits your EAD
Tyson's onboarding timelines don't automatically account for OPT EAD processing. When you receive an offer, confirm that your proposed start date falls on or after your EAD validity date. Recruiters familiar with international hiring can adjust start dates, but you need to raise it proactively during the offer stage.
Research prevailing wages before your interview
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your target role and location before your Tyson Foods interview. Knowing the DOL wage tiers for your occupation lets you evaluate whether an offer meets the benchmark needed for a future H-1B filing with the same employer.
