Align your degree to insurance roles
USI prioritizes candidates whose academic background connects directly to risk management, finance, actuarial science, or business analytics. Pull up your O*NET occupation profile for your target role and confirm your degree field matches the specialty occupation classification before applying.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
For STEM OPT, USI must be enrolled in E-Verify before your 24-month extension is approved. Ask your recruiter to confirm E-Verify participation during the offer stage, not after you've already given notice to a previous employer.
Target client advisory and analytics teams
At insurance brokerages like USI, OPT hires most commonly land in risk consulting, employee benefits analysis, and data analytics. These teams have recurring graduate hiring cycles, so timing your application to fall and spring recruiting windows significantly improves your chances.
Submit your I-983 training plan early
STEM OPT requires a signed I-983 training plan between you and USI before USCIS approves your extension. Start the conversation with your manager and HR contact at least 90 days before your initial OPT ends to avoid gaps in work authorization.
Research USI's OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review USI Insurance Services's visa hiring activity by role and location. Knowing which offices and job functions have the strongest track record helps you tailor your application and ask sharper sponsorship questions during the offer conversation.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage data
Insurance roles at USI vary in compensation by region and function. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific occupation and metro area so you can negotiate from an informed position and flag any offer that falls below DOL wage levels.
USI Insurance Services OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does USI Insurance Services sponsor OPT visas?
USI Insurance Services hires students who already hold an OPT EAD granted by USCIS. The company doesn't petition for OPT directly since that authorization comes from USCIS to the student. For STEM OPT extensions, USI's E-Verify enrollment status matters, so confirm that during the offer process before accepting a role.
Which departments at USI Insurance Services typically hire OPT students?
Risk consulting, employee benefits, commercial insurance brokerage, and data analytics are the teams at USI that most consistently bring on early-career talent through OPT. Client-facing advisory roles and analytical positions tied to insurance program management tend to have the most recurring graduate-level openings aligned with OPT timelines.
How do I navigate the OPT hiring process at USI Insurance Services?
Your OPT EAD must already be approved before your start date at USI. Once you receive an offer, provide your EAD and I-20 to HR for onboarding. If you're pursuing STEM OPT, coordinate with your DSO and USI's HR team to complete the I-983 training plan well ahead of your initial OPT expiration date.
How do I find open OPT roles at USI Insurance Services?
Migrate Mate lists OPT-compatible openings at USI Insurance Services filtered by visa type, so you can identify positions where the employer has a demonstrated track record of hiring students on work authorization. Searching directly through Migrate Mate saves you from applying to roles where OPT candidates are routinely screened out early.
Does USI Insurance Services sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
USI Insurance Services sponsors H-1B visas and other work visa types, making it a viable long-term employer for OPT students approaching their authorization limit. The OPT-to-H-1B transition is not guaranteed, but high-performing hires in insurance brokerage and analytics roles have the strongest path to employer-sponsored H-1B petitions at USI.
How does USI Insurance Services hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. USI Insurance Services can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check USI Insurance Services's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
