INTRODUCTION
This is the first dedicated Revenue Operations hire in Mainspring’s history. We’re commercializing the linear generator — a breakthrough technology that converts a wide range of fuels directly into electricity — with a growing fleet of deployed systems and strong commercial traction.
You won’t be stepping into a defined lane. You’ll own the full quote-to-cash cycle, bring the technical accounting rigor our complex revenue streams demand, and build the processes that carry us through our next phase of growth. You’ll report directly to the VP of Finance and Controller, sit at the center of our most critical financial workflows, and have a front-row seat to everything ahead of us.
This is a role for someone who wants real ownership — not a process to maintain, but a function to build. If you’re technically sharp, hungry to make an impact, and motivated by meaningful work at a company solving a real energy challenge, read on.
- Direct report to VP of Finance
- IPO-readiness work
- AI & cloud adoption in finance
- Mission-driven clean energy company
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Revenue recognition (ASC 606): Lead recognition analysis for all contracts — multi-element arrangements, milestone payments, third-party financing overlays. Document and defend positions with the Controller and external auditors.
- Invoicing & billing: Drive the full cycle across equipment sales, LTSAs, O&M contracts, and project engagements. Own the Salesforce-to-NetSuite handoff — and improve it.
- Accounts receivable & collections: Manage the AR ledger end-to-end: aging, cash application, collections, reconciliation, and KPI reporting to Finance leadership.
- Project accounting & advances: Track revenue, cost, and margin by project. Manage customer advance payments from receipt through milestone-based revenue release.
- Project finance support: Maintain billing and AR records in support of lender reporting, covenant compliance, and financing due diligence.
- Sales tax compliance: Own multi-jurisdiction tax determination, exemption certificates, and coordination with external tax advisors.
- Process improvement: This is where you leave your mark. Automate, streamline, and build the SOPs and system integrations that scale with the business.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
You have deep, practical experience in revenue accounting or revenue operations — and you’ve been in the room when ASC 606 questions get complicated. You’ve managed billing tied to milestones, navigated financing overlays, and answered an auditor’s question without needing to check with anyone first. Just as important: you see the current manual workflow and want to fix it, not just run it.
- 6+ years in revenue operations, revenue accounting, or a closely related finance role
- ASC 606 depth: multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, performance obligations — you can document and defend positions, not just describe them
- Experience with project accounting or percentage-of-completion revenue models
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex billing arrangements tied to contractual milestones
- NetSuite (preferred) and Salesforce; hands-on experience with the quote-to-cash workflow
- End-to-end ownership experience: invoicing, AR, collections, and booking revenue entries
- Comfort managing a manual, spreadsheet-driven process while building toward automation and process improvement leveraging AI
- Strong cross-functional communication — you can hold your own with auditors, Sales, Ops, and Legal, Project delivery
- Great communication skills and willing to be proactive when communicating cross-functionally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Energy, cleantech, capital equipment, or project-based industry experience
- Big Four background or public company revenue accounting experience
- CPA or progress toward CPA
- Exposure to project finance structures: tax equity, sale-leaseback, debt facilities
- Familiarity with long-term service agreements (LTSAs) or operations & maintenance (O&M) contract structures
- Experience managing customer advances and deposits in a project-based business
- CPA or progress toward CPA
This position is onsite at our Menlo Park HQ. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee. Along with the base salary, Mainspring offers pre-IPO stock options + benefits.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Align your credentials to Mainspring's hardware focus
Mainspring builds linear generators, so roles lean toward mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems experience. Frame your resume around hardware development, power systems, or manufacturing processes rather than software or policy work.
Confirm your degree supports a specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the Energy role you're applying for. A mechanical or electrical engineering degree typically satisfies this for hardware-focused positions. A generalist degree may need supplementing with relevant work history.
Target roles early in Mainspring's hiring cycle
For H-1B sponsorship, the April 1 filing deadline is fixed. If you're interviewing in February or March, confirm with the recruiter whether there's enough lead time to prepare your petition before the registration window closes.
Ask about cap-exempt filing paths if you're already in status
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT or a TN visa, your situation affects how Mainspring files. OPT holders can start immediately while the H-1B petition is pending. TN holders may need a change-of-status filing rather than consular processing.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Energy roles at Mainspring
Mainspring posts across multiple job boards, making it hard to track which positions are active and sponsorship-eligible. Migrate Mate filters Mainspring's Energy openings specifically for candidates who need visa support, saving you from applying to roles that won't sponsor.
Prepare your DOL Labor Condition Application documentation in advance
Your employer files the LCA with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Having your job title, work location, and prevailing wage documentation confirmed early prevents delays, especially for field-based Energy roles with multiple work sites.

Does Mainspring Energy sponsor H-1B visas for Energy roles?
Yes, Mainspring Energy sponsors H-1B visas for Energy positions. The company has a documented history of filing across multiple visa categories for technical roles. If you're in the H-1B lottery pool, confirm the timeline with your recruiter early, since USCIS registration typically opens in March and petitions must be filed by April 1.
Which visa types does Mainspring Energy commonly sponsor for Energy positions?
Mainspring Energy sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Energy roles, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 as a faster alternative to the H-1B lottery. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations may be eligible for TN status at the border.
What qualifications does Mainspring Energy expect for Energy roles?
Most Energy roles at Mainspring require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or a closely related discipline. Hands-on experience with hardware development, power generation systems, or manufacturing processes is valued. For USCIS purposes, your degree field needs to align directly with the specific role you're hired into.
How do I apply for Energy jobs at Mainspring Energy?
You can browse and apply for Energy roles at Mainspring Energy through Migrate Mate, which filters open positions by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can focus on roles where international candidates are actively considered. When you apply, tailor your application to Mainspring's hardware and clean energy focus, and be upfront about your visa status early in the recruiter conversation.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Energy roles at Mainspring Energy?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship follows a fixed annual cycle with an October 1 start date, meaning you need an offer in hand well before the March registration window. E-3 and TN processing can move faster, often within a few weeks of an offer. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes one to three years depending on your country of birth and priority date.
