JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly capable Manufacturing Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering foundation to bridge the gap between product design and scalable production.
In this role, you will partner closely with Mechanical Design Engineering to ensure our products are not only functional, but manufacturable, scalable, and robust at volume. You will play a critical role in shaping design decisions early—driving DFM/DFX, tolerance strategies, and assembly error-proofing into the product architecture.
This is not a downstream role. You will actively challenge and influence design concepts, ensuring they are suitable for high-volume production—not just prototype success.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design fundamentals with hands-on manufacturing experience and thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments.
Design for Manufacturability (Core Focus): Partner with Mechanical Design Engineers to translate product concepts into manufacturable, scalable solutions
- Drive DFM/DFX initiatives, including tolerance stack-ups (GD&T), datum strategy, and assembly sequencing
- Convert assembly process learnings (error-proofing, access, ergonomics) into clear design requirements
- Actively influence and challenge product design decisions using first-principles engineering and manufacturing constraints
- Contribute to design decisions with understanding of stress, interfaces, and system integration
Assembly and Equipment design: Design and develop fixtures, jigs, and assembly equipment with a focus on precision, repeatability, and cost
- Perform tolerance analysis and support detailed 2D drawing creation for fabrication
- Support early validation through prototyping, testing, and iteration
- Select and integrate actuators, sensors, and standard components; define functional sequences for automation
- Emphasize simple, robust solutions using off-the-shelf components where possible
Manufacturing Scale-Up:
- Own the transition of assembly processes from prototype builds to scalable production systems
- Plan and validate production processes using PFMEA, DOE, and capability studies (Cpk, GR&R)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to move from prototype to volume production
- Support factory layout, line design, capacity planning, and continuous improvement efforts
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Education and work experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3–6 years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, or a hybrid role
Strong foundation in:
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA)
- GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
- 2D drawing creation for manufacturing
- Datum strategy and precision assembly
- Demonstrated experience influencing product design for manufacturability
- Experience designing assembly processes and scaling from prototype to production
Familiarity with:
- PFMEA, 8D, DOE
- Process capability (Cpk), GR&R
- Assembly technologies (fastening, machining, laser metrology)
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 15%
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- Ability to challenge design decisions with data and first-principles thinking
- Strong intuition for “what will break at scale” vs. what works in prototype
- Hands-on mindset—you’re comfortable on the floor validating your ideas
- Bias for simple, cost-effective solutions over over-engineering

Tips for Finding Manufacturing Jobs at Mainspring Energy
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for manufacturing roles hinges on whether your position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Frame your resume around engineering or materials science disciplines, not general production experience, so the role maps cleanly to a degree requirement USCIS will recognize.
Target process and manufacturing engineering openings
Mainspring's manufacturing hiring centers on roles tied to its linear generator production ramp. Process engineers, quality engineers, and NPI roles are more likely to clear the specialty occupation bar than floor technician positions, which carry higher sponsorship risk at most clean energy manufacturers.
Verify your OPT work authorization covers your start date
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your EAD card's expiration date before accepting an offer. Mainspring's manufacturing roles often involve structured onboarding timelines, and a gap between your start date and valid work authorization can delay or complicate your first day.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
For Green Card pathways like EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process typically takes 12 to 18 months before a petition is filed. Raising this during offer negotiation, not after you've started, gives you a realistic picture of your long-term sponsorship timeline at the company.
Use Migrate Mate to filter manufacturing roles by visa type
Not every manufacturing job at a sponsoring company is approved for every visa category. Use Migrate Mate to browse Mainspring Energy's open manufacturing positions filtered by the visa type you need, so you're applying to roles where your specific sponsorship pathway has precedent.
Prepare documentation that proves hands-on manufacturing expertise
Mainspring builds novel hardware, so hiring managers look for evidence of real production environments, not just academic credentials. Gather documentation of any work with assembly processes, test fixtures, or quality systems before interviews, since these details often surface in sponsorship petition letters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mainspring Energy sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing roles?
Yes, Mainspring Energy sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying manufacturing positions. Roles that meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, typically those requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a closely related field, are the strongest candidates for H-1B sponsorship. General technician or production operator roles may not clear that bar, so targeting engineering-titled positions improves your chances.
Which visa types does Mainspring Energy commonly use for Manufacturing roles?
Mainspring Energy sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, and F-1 OPT for manufacturing roles, along with immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term Green Card pathways. E-3 visa is available exclusively to Australian citizens and follows a simpler process than H-1B. TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA occupations. The right category depends on your nationality and the specific role.
How do I apply for Manufacturing jobs at Mainspring Energy?
You can browse and apply for Mainspring Energy's open manufacturing positions directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which aggregates visa-sponsored manufacturing roles and lets you filter by visa type. When applying, tailor your application to highlight production engineering, process development, or quality systems experience relevant to hardware manufacturing, since those skills align with Mainspring's core build operations.
What qualifications does Mainspring Energy expect for sponsored Manufacturing positions?
For sponsorable manufacturing roles, Mainspring typically looks for a degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering alongside direct experience in production environments. Familiarity with lean manufacturing, quality management systems, or NPI processes strengthens your profile. Because sponsorship is tied to specialty occupation requirements, having a degree that maps clearly to the job function matters as much as practical experience.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Manufacturing role at Mainspring Energy?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B standard processing runs three to six months after filing, with premium processing available for a faster decision. E-3 and TN can often be secured in weeks through consular processing. F-1 OPT allows you to start immediately while longer-term sponsorship is arranged. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship adds 12 to 18 months on top of the petition stage, so planning ahead matters.
