Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Manufacturing roles at Johnson Controls that qualify for H-1B sponsorship typically require a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a closely related field. Document how your degree maps directly to the specific role's duties before applying.
Target plant and operations engineering postings
Johnson Controls regularly hires for process, controls, and manufacturing engineering roles tied to HVAC, fire, and building systems. Filter open positions by facility type to find the technical roles most likely to carry sponsorship rather than general production or line positions.
Browse visa-sponsored Manufacturing openings on Migrate Mate
Searching Johnson Controls' full job board makes it hard to isolate sponsorship-eligible roles. Migrate Mate surfaces Manufacturing positions at Johnson Controls already filtered for visa sponsorship, saving you time and surfacing roles general job boards don't flag.
Clarify sponsorship early in recruiter conversations
Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific manufacturing role supports H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. Some facilities sponsor only certain positions, so confirming before the offer stage avoids late-stage delays that compress your filing timeline.
Understand where PERM fits your green card path
Johnson Controls has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for manufacturing professionals. If you're targeting permanent residency, ask whether your role's duties and minimum requirements support a PERM labor certification filing with DOL from the outset.
Use OPT and CPT to build qualifying manufacturing experience
F-1 students in engineering or manufacturing programs can use CPT for co-ops at facilities like Johnson Controls, then leverage OPT to build full-time tenure. That direct experience strengthens both your H-1B petition and any future USCIS review of specialty occupation status.

Find Manufacturing at Johnson Controls JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing roles?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for manufacturing roles that meet the specialty occupation standard, which generally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a field directly related to the position. Engineering-aligned roles in process, controls, and manufacturing systems are the most common fit. General production or technician roles without a degree requirement are less likely to qualify under USCIS guidelines.
How do I apply for Manufacturing jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply directly through Johnson Controls' careers site or browse visa-sponsorship-filtered Manufacturing openings on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify roles that align with your immigration status. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific technical function, whether that's process engineering, quality systems, or supply chain, and confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter before progressing through later interview rounds.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Manufacturing roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation manufacturing positions, typically in engineering or technical program management. The company also sponsors TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students gaining hands-on manufacturing experience, and files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for longer-tenured employees in roles that meet PERM requirements.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls look for in Manufacturing candidates needing sponsorship?
Sponsored manufacturing candidates at Johnson Controls typically hold a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Relevant experience with production systems, lean manufacturing, quality standards such as ISO or Six Sigma, or building-systems technology strengthens your candidacy. For H-1B eligibility specifically, USCIS requires that the degree be in a field directly tied to the role's core duties, so generic engineering backgrounds need to connect clearly to the job's technical requirements.
How do visa sponsorship timelines work for Manufacturing roles at Johnson Controls?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer must file an H-1B petition during the April cap season for an October 1 start date, so offers need to come together by late February or early March at the latest. Cap-exempt filings, like transfers from an already-approved H-1B, move faster and can be processed year-round through USCIS. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the port of entry, which makes that pathway significantly quicker for eligible roles.
