Target engineering and technical roles first
Johnson Controls concentrates sponsorship in engineering, controls, and systems disciplines tied to its core manufacturing and building technology business. Focus your applications on roles where your technical degree aligns directly with the product or service area.
Understand the full Green Card pipeline
Johnson Controls has a strong track record of supporting employees through Green Card sponsorship, not just H-1B. If long-term U.S. residency matters to you, ask recruiters directly about their EB-2 and EB-3 pathways during early conversations.
OPT and CPT candidates have a real path in
Johnson Controls actively hires F-1 students on OPT and CPT, particularly for engineering co-ops and entry-level roles. This is one of the stronger manufacturing employers for recent graduates who need a company willing to hire before H-1B sponsorship begins.
Use TN status if you're Canadian or Mexican
Johnson Controls sponsors TN visas, which is notable for a manufacturing employer. If you're a Canadian or Mexican engineer, TN status can get you working faster than the H-1B process, and Johnson Controls has demonstrated willingness to support it.
Apply early in the H-1B cap season
For H-1B sponsorship at Johnson Controls, timing matters. Aim to have an offer secured by January or February so your employer can prepare the petition for the April filing window. Use Migrate Mate to surface verified sponsors and filter by real sponsorship history before you apply.
Align your role to core business units
Sponsorship at Johnson Controls is most consistent in divisions tied to its manufacturing, controls, and automation operations. Research which business unit the role falls under before applying, sponsorship decisions are often made at the business-unit level, not centrally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas. The company has a consistent history of H-1B filings, primarily for engineering, technical, and systems roles across its manufacturing and building technology divisions. If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, focus on roles where your degree field matches the job requirements directly, as specialty occupation alignment is the most common point of scrutiny.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls sponsor?
Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visas. This is a broader range than many manufacturing employers, making it a strong option for international candidates at different career stages, from students on OPT to experienced professionals pursuing permanent residency through the Green Card process.
Which departments or roles at Johnson Controls typically receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Johnson Controls is concentrated in engineering, systems design, controls, and technical operations roles, areas that map directly to its HVAC, fire safety, and building automation business lines. Software, data, and project management roles within those divisions also attract sponsorship. General corporate or administrative roles are less likely to qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B standards.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Johnson Controls?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find Johnson Controls roles that come with verified sponsorship history. Rather than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship mid-process, Migrate Mate lets you filter by employer and visa type so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This is especially useful if you're on OPT with a limited runway.
How do I approach the application timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Johnson Controls?
The H-1B cap filing window opens in April each year, with USCIS registration typically occurring in March. To give Johnson Controls enough time to prepare your petition, aim to have an offer finalized by January or February at the latest. Starting your job search in the fall of the prior year gives you the best chance of meeting that timeline without rushing the offer or petition process.
