Frame your experience around industrial solutions
Johnson Controls prioritizes Business Development candidates who understand building systems, HVAC, fire safety, or energy infrastructure. Position your credentials around B2B sales cycles and technical solution selling in manufacturing or industrial markets before you apply.
Verify your employer's E-Verify enrollment early
Johnson Controls participates in E-Verify, which is required for F-1 OPT and STEM OPT authorization. Confirm your start date aligns with your OPT approval timeline so there's no gap between your employment authorization and your first day.
Target roles tied to specific business units
Johnson Controls structures Business Development hiring around divisions like Global Products, OpenBlue, and Fire and Security. Applying to a division-specific role signals fit and increases the chance your hiring manager already has sponsorship approval in the pipeline.
Initiate the H-1B conversation before your offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start, so if you're interviewing in the fall or winter, clarify with your recruiter whether the timeline aligns with the next lottery cycle before accepting an offer.
Search open Business Development roles using Migrate Mate
Filter for Johnson Controls Business Development positions by visa type on Migrate Mate so you're only seeing roles where sponsorship is confirmed, saving time and letting you focus your outreach on the right hiring teams.
Prepare for PERM-stage documentation from day one
If your long-term goal is an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card through Johnson Controls, keep records of your degrees, transcripts, and prior employment verifications now. PERM requires the DOL to verify that no qualified U.S. worker was available, and clean documentation speeds the process significantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The company has an active sponsorship history across its manufacturing and building technologies divisions. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions must be submitted in April for an October 1 start date, you'll want to raise the sponsorship question early in the interview process so both sides can plan around the USCIS lottery timeline.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Johnson Controls?
You can apply through Johnson Controls' careers portal directly, or use Migrate Mate to find open Business Development roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight experience in B2B sales, strategic partnerships, or revenue growth within industrial or building technology markets. Johnson Controls' Business Development teams are distributed across multiple business units, so targeting the right division improves your chances.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Business Development roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors several visa categories for Business Development positions, including H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations), F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree field, and where you are in your career. TN visa is often the fastest path for eligible candidates already in North America.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls typically expect for Business Development roles?
Johnson Controls Business Development roles generally require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, with experience in B2B sales, account management, or solution selling in industrial or commercial markets. Familiarity with building management systems, energy services, or fire and security solutions is a meaningful differentiator. Senior roles often expect experience managing complex sales cycles, cross-functional collaboration, and territory or revenue ownership.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Johnson Controls Business Development offer?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS can take up to 90 days, so apply early. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the same day as your start date. H-1B sponsorship follows a fixed federal calendar with an April filing window and October 1 effective date. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card processes through DOL PERM typically take one to three years or more depending on your country of birth and priority date.
