Align your credentials with ABB's product verticals
ABB's Business Development roles typically sit within specific divisions like Electrification or Process Automation. Tailor your resume to show domain expertise in one vertical rather than generic sales experience across industries.
Target roles posted through ABB's internal career portal
ABB fills many Business Development positions through its own careers site before aggregator boards reflect them. Checking directly and setting alerts gets you in front of recruiters earlier, before the pipeline fills with domestic candidates.
Address sponsorship directly in your cover letter
ABB's talent acquisition teams for Business Development are accustomed to sponsorship conversations, but don't wait until the offer stage. Confirming your visa status early avoids late-stage surprises and signals you understand the process.
Prepare for a PERM-supported Green Card timeline
ABB has sponsored both H-1B and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards for Business Development professionals. If permanent residency is your goal, ask the recruiter about their PERM filing track record for this function during the offer negotiation stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Development openings by sponsorship history
Searching broadly across job boards wastes time on roles with no sponsorship intent. Migrate Mate lets you filter ABB's Business Development openings specifically by visa sponsorship track record, so you apply where your status is already a known fit.
Account for LCA filing timelines before your start date
ABB must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Build at least several weeks of LCA processing time into your expected start date conversation with the hiring manager.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles, particularly within its manufacturing and industrial automation divisions. The company works with immigration counsel to manage the H-1B petition process, including the required Labor Condition Application filed with DOL. If you're in an active H-1B status, a transfer to ABB is also possible without waiting for a new cap slot.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at ABB?
Apply directly through ABB's careers portal, where Business Development positions are listed by division and region. You can also browse ABB's open roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify positions where international candidates have a realistic path to an offer and visa filing.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Business Development hires?
ABB most commonly sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development professionals, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field. For longer-term hires, ABB has also pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process for this function.
What qualifications does ABB expect for Business Development roles?
ABB's Business Development positions generally require a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a technically adjacent field, with preference for candidates who have direct industry experience in manufacturing, automation, or industrial technology. Roles that involve managing channel partners or driving revenue in capital equipment markets tend to favor candidates with both technical fluency and enterprise sales exposure.
How do I plan my timeline if ABB is sponsoring my H-1B?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your petition can only be filed once per year, with an October 1 start date for that fiscal year. ABB will need to submit your registration during the March lottery window. If you're already on H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer can happen year-round, and USCIS premium processing is available if you need a faster adjudication decision.
