Align Your Credentials to ABB's Engineering Specializations
ABB's engineering roles concentrate on power systems, industrial automation, and electrification. Frame your resume around specific technical competencies like PLC programming, drives, or switchgear rather than generalist engineering experience before you apply.
Target Roles That Match Your Degree Field Exactly
H-1B specialty occupation requires a direct connection between your degree and the role. For ABB manufacturing roles, a mismatch between your field of study and the posted position is one of the most common petition vulnerabilities, so verify alignment before submitting.
Research ABB's DOL Labor Condition Application Filings
DOL's OFLC disclosure data shows which engineering job titles ABB files LCAs for by location. Use this to identify which sites are actively sponsoring and which engineering specializations they file under most frequently before targeting a specific office.
Prepare for ABB's Technical Interview Process Early
ABB engineering interviews typically involve applied problem-solving tied to industrial systems. Candidates with hands-on experience in automation or energy infrastructure move faster through hiring, which gives you more runway to initiate the H-1B petition process before cap deadlines.
Understand the EB-2 and EB-3 Filing Timeline for Manufacturing Employers
ABB sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification for manufacturing roles can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even sees your I-140. Factor that into your long-term planning from the moment you receive an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Find ABB Engineering Openings That Sponsor
Not every ABB engineering posting is open to sponsorship candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for ABB roles verified for visa sponsorship, so you're applying to positions where the process is already confirmed rather than guessing from a generic job board.

Find Engineering at ABB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles across its U.S. operations, particularly in areas like industrial automation, power systems, and electrification. The company files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL and submits I-129 petitions through USCIS. Not every open role is guaranteed sponsorship-eligible, so confirming with the recruiter early in the process is the right move.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at ABB?
You can apply directly through ABB's careers portal or find verified sponsorship-eligible openings through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where the employer has confirmed willingness to sponsor. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed, whether that's drives, automation, or power infrastructure, since ABB's hiring teams are technical and screen for domain fit closely.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Engineering roles?
ABB primarily uses the H-1B visa for initial work authorization for engineering hires. For longer-term immigration, the company supports employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 for roles requiring advanced degrees and EB-3 for positions filled by professionals with bachelor's degrees. The right category depends on the specific role and your qualifications.
What qualifications does ABB expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
ABB engineering roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. For H-1B purposes, the degree must directly correspond to the role's duties. Practical experience with industrial systems, automation platforms, or power infrastructure strengthens your candidacy and supports the specialty occupation case USCIS evaluates.
How do I plan around the H-1B timeline when targeting ABB?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March for an October 1 start date, so an offer from ABB needs to be in place before registration closes. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration against that calendar. Cap-exempt situations such as transfers from an existing H-1B holder have more scheduling flexibility, but standard new petitions must align with USCIS's annual filing window.
