Align your PMP credentials to ABB's scope
ABB's Project Manager roles in manufacturing typically require demonstrated experience with capital projects or industrial automation programs. A PMP certification paired with hands-on plant or operations exposure signals you can step in without a ramp-up period.
Target ABB's industrial automation business units
ABB organizes hiring around divisions like Electrification, Motion, and Process Automation. Project Manager openings in these units move faster than corporate roles and carry clearer visa sponsorship pathways because the technical specialty occupation case is easier to build.
Search open Project Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter ABB's Project Manager openings by visa sponsorship eligibility. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cross-referencing job boards with DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to confirm whether a posting supports H-1B filing.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS requires that an H-1B petition demonstrate the role is a specialty occupation. For Project Managers, that means collecting degree transcripts, a detailed job description showing engineering or technical depth, and any professional licenses before your offer letter arrives.
Confirm LCA prevailing wage tier during offer negotiation
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition. The LCA locks in a prevailing wage level, so verify the offered salary meets at least the Level II or Level III threshold for your work location before accepting.
Plan your timeline around the H-1B cap and PERM cycle
If you're subject to the H-1B cap lottery, registration opens in March for an October 1 start. For Green Card sponsorship via PERM, ABB's manufacturing roles typically require a defined labor market test period, so start that conversation at least 18 months before you need status certainty.
Project Manager at ABB jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Project Manager at ABB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Project Managers?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Project Manager roles, particularly within its industrial automation and manufacturing divisions. The company has established relationships with immigration counsel and a consistent history of filing petitions for technical and operations management positions. Your strongest path is targeting roles tied to specific engineering programs, where the specialty occupation argument for an H-1B is clearest.
How do I apply for Project Manager jobs at ABB?
Apply directly through ABB's careers portal and tailor your resume to highlight program scope, cross-functional team leadership, and any experience in manufacturing or industrial sectors. You can also browse ABB's open Project Manager roles on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can identify the right openings without manually checking each posting.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Project Manager roles?
ABB primarily sponsors H-1B visas for Project Managers requiring foreign national work authorization. For candidates on a longer-term path, the company also files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process. The H-1B is the standard starting point for most new hires, with Green Card sponsorship typically initiated after one to two years of employment.
What qualifications does ABB expect for Project Manager roles?
ABB's Project Manager positions in manufacturing generally require a bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related technical field, along with several years of experience managing industrial or capital projects. PMP certification is frequently listed as preferred. Familiarity with ABB's core sectors, such as power distribution, motion control, or process automation, strengthens your candidacy considerably over a generalist project management background.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I receive an offer from ABB?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USCIS opens registration each March for an October 1 employment start. ABB will need to file your petition shortly after a lottery selection, so accept your offer well before March and begin gathering specialty occupation documentation immediately. If you're already in valid H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer can happen at any point in the year.
