Align your credentials with ABB's technical standards
ABB maintenance roles in manufacturing typically require documented experience with industrial automation systems, PLCs, or high-voltage equipment. Before applying, gather certifications like NFPA 70E or vendor-specific credentials that match the equipment ABB services at its facilities.
Target ABB facilities by equipment specialization
ABB operates multiple U.S. manufacturing and service sites with distinct maintenance needs. Identifying which facility works with your specific equipment background, whether robotics, drives, or switchgear, sharpens your application and signals a genuine fit to the hiring team.
Browse open ABB maintenance roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa sponsorship status, so you can see which ABB maintenance openings are actively seeking sponsored candidates rather than sorting through listings that won't consider your immigration situation.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your final interview
ABB handles visa sponsorship through its internal HR and legal teams. Confirming they'll file an H-1B petition for your specific role before you reach the offer stage saves time, since not every maintenance position at every site is pre-approved for sponsorship.
Understand the H-1B filing window and plan accordingly
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March each year, with the lottery typically completing before April 1. If you're targeting ABB for full sponsorship, your offer timeline needs to align with this window or account for cap-exempt alternatives like an O-1 visa.
Prepare for PERM if a Green Card path matters to you
ABB has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for maintenance and engineering professionals. PERM requires DOL-supervised recruitment before filing, so ask your ABB recruiter early whether the role is being considered for permanent residency sponsorship alongside the H-1B.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenances?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for qualified maintenance professionals in its U.S. manufacturing and services operations. Sponsorship is typically tied to specific roles and facilities, so availability depends on the position you're applying for. Confirming sponsorship intent directly with the recruiter during the interview process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Maintenance jobs at ABB?
Applications go through ABB's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. Maintenance roles are listed under operations, service, or field service categories depending on the division. Using a platform like Migrate Mate helps you surface ABB maintenance openings that are specifically open to visa sponsorship, so you're not applying blind.
Which visa types does ABB commonly use for Maintenance roles?
ABB primarily uses the H-1B for skilled maintenance professionals in specialty occupations, which covers roles requiring a relevant engineering or technical degree. For longer-term employees, ABB has also pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the Department of Labor.
What qualifications does ABB expect for sponsored Maintenance positions?
Most sponsored maintenance roles at ABB require a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with industrial automation, power distribution equipment, or ABB-specific product lines like drives and robotics strengthens your profile significantly. Relevant safety certifications and prior manufacturing environment experience are commonly expected as well.
How do I time my application to align with the H-1B process?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March and runs the lottery before April 1. To have ABB sponsor your H-1B for an October 1 start date, you generally need an offer finalized by late February. Starting your job search six to nine months before that window gives you enough time to interview, receive an offer, and prepare the petition.
