Certify Trade Credentials Before Applying
U.S. employers in hospitality expect certifications like EPA 608 for HVAC work or a journeyman electrician license. Getting your credentials evaluated or equivalency-certified before you apply removes a common sticking point in Hyatt's screening process.
Target Properties With Large Facilities Footprints
Hyatt's full-service and resort properties run larger engineering teams than select-service hotels, which means more open roles and stronger justification for sponsorship. Focus your search on flagship hotels, conference resorts, and Grand Hyatt or Park Hyatt properties specifically.
Understand Which Visa Fits Your Maintenance Role
H-2B covers temporary seasonal maintenance at resort properties, while H-1B applies if your role involves engineering-level specialty duties. F-1 OPT works if you're in a facilities management or engineering technology program. Matching your visa type to the actual job scope matters before you approach a recruiter.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent During the Offer Stage
Ask the hiring manager directly whether the property has an established relationship with an immigration attorney. Hyatt properties operate semi-independently, so sponsorship capacity can vary by location. Raising it after an offer avoids wasted time on both sides.
Track Hyatt's Maintenance Openings Using Migrate Mate
Maintenance roles at Hyatt that include visa sponsorship aren't always labeled clearly. Use Migrate Mate to filter Hyatt listings by visa type so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is actually on the table.
Prepare for DOL Prevailing Wage Requirements Early
For PERM-based Green Card or H-1B filings, DOL requires Hyatt to pay the prevailing wage for your maintenance job title and location. Review wage levels for your specific trade on the DOL Foreign Labor Certification Data Center so you can evaluate offers against that benchmark.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hyatt sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenances?
Hyatt does sponsor H-1B visas, but eligibility for maintenance roles depends on whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria. Roles involving building systems engineering, facilities management, or energy management with a required bachelor's degree in a relevant field are more likely to qualify than general trade positions. Confirm the role's classification with the hiring property before assuming H-1B is the right path.
How do I apply for Maintenance jobs at Hyatt?
Applications go through Hyatt's careers portal, where you can filter by job category and location. For roles that include visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate aggregates Hyatt's maintenance listings by visa type, so you can quickly identify which openings are relevant to your situation. When you apply, be upfront about your work authorization status in the application or initial screening call to avoid late-stage surprises.
Which visa types does Hyatt commonly use for Maintenance roles?
Hyatt uses a range of visa categories for maintenance hires depending on the role and property type. H-2B visa covers temporary or seasonal positions at resort properties, particularly for HVAC, groundskeeping, or facilities support during peak seasons. H-1B applies to engineering-level or specialty roles. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is possible for longer-term employees in technical positions.
What qualifications does Hyatt expect for sponsored Maintenance positions?
Hyatt typically looks for hands-on experience in building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or preventive maintenance programs. Trade certifications like EPA 608, journeyman licenses, or completion of a vocational or technical program carry significant weight. For roles at larger full-service properties, familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems is common. Engineering-level roles that support H-1B sponsorship generally require a bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Maintenance role at Hyatt?
Timeline varies by visa type. H-2B petitions for seasonal roles need to be filed months in advance of the start date given DOL and USCIS processing requirements. H-1B filings are tied to the annual cap and lottery, with a start date of October 1 if selected. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes one to three years from initiation to approval. Raising sponsorship early in the hiring process gives both you and the property's legal team enough runway to file correctly.
