Certify your maintenance credentials before applying
Thermo Fisher's facilities teams work with regulated lab and manufacturing equipment, so certifications like HVAC, electrical licensure, or GMP maintenance training signal readiness. Verify your credentials are recognized across U.S. state jurisdictions before you submit applications.
Target sites with active manufacturing operations
Thermo Fisher's maintenance demand clusters around its bioproduction, diagnostics, and instrument manufacturing campuses. Filtering your search by facility type rather than just job title puts you in front of openings where sponsorship is a standard part of the hiring pipeline.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Maintenance roles
Search Migrate Mate to browse verified Maintenance openings at Thermo Fisher Scientific filtered by visa type. This saves you from applying to roles where sponsorship is unavailable and helps you prioritize positions that align with your authorization status.
Understand how TN status applies to your trade
If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, TN classification covers certain engineering and scientific technician roles. Confirm with your employer that your specific maintenance position qualifies under DOL's USMCA occupation list before the offer stage to avoid last-minute reclassification issues.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer negotiation
Large employers like Thermo Fisher typically handle H-1B filings internally, but the scope varies by role level. During offer negotiations, ask directly whether the position includes PERM-based Green Card sponsorship or only temporary H-1B status so you can plan your long-term authorization timeline.
Align your F-1 OPT timeline with the H-1B cap deadline
If you're on F-1 OPT, the H-1B registration window opens in March for an October 1 start. Starting your job search at Thermo Fisher several months before your OPT expires gives you enough runway to complete the hiring process and submit USCIS filings without a gap in work authorization.

Find Maintenance at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenances?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Maintenance positions. Sponsorship is most common for roles requiring specialized technical knowledge tied to a specific degree field, such as electromechanical systems or facilities engineering. Roles that are more trade-based without a degree requirement may be structured differently, so confirm sponsorship availability directly during the interview process.
How do I apply for Maintenance jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal, where you can filter by job category and location. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse open Maintenance roles at Thermo Fisher filtered by visa sponsorship type, which helps you identify the right positions before applying. Tailor your resume to highlight relevant equipment experience, certifications, and any GMP or regulated environment background.
Which visa types are commonly used for Maintenance roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
H-1B is the most common path for degree-holding candidates in technical maintenance roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are used by students completing programs in engineering technology or related fields. TN visas cover certain scientific technician and engineer classifications for Canadian and Mexican nationals. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is available for longer-tenured employees in roles that qualify under PERM labor certification.
What qualifications are expected for Maintenance roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Expectations vary by site type. Manufacturing and bioproduction facilities typically look for candidates with electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation backgrounds and hands-on experience with preventive maintenance programs. GMP compliance knowledge is a strong differentiator in regulated environments. For visa sponsorship eligibility under H-1B, the role generally needs to qualify as a specialty occupation, which means a degree in a directly related field is required.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Maintenance hire at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
For H-1B sponsorship, the standard USCIS processing timeline runs several months from petition filing to approval, with an October 1 start date for cap-subject cases filed in spring. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship can take one to two years before the I-140 petition stage. Starting conversations about sponsorship early in the offer process helps both you and the employer align expectations and avoid authorization gaps.
