Align your degree field to the role
Thermo Fisher's engineering requisitions typically specify disciplines like mechanical, electrical, chemical, or systems engineering. Your degree must match the posted specialty. A mismatch between your transcript and the job description can create H-1B specialty occupation complications at the USCIS adjudication stage.
Target Thermo Fisher's product manufacturing sites
Roles tied to instrument manufacturing, bioprocessing equipment, or lab automation are concentrated at specific facilities. Searching by site location, not just job title, surfaces positions with dedicated engineering teams that have recurring sponsorship needs rather than one-off openings.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Engineering roles
Thermo Fisher regularly posts Engineering positions across multiple sites. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles that match your visa type so you're not applying to positions that don't fit your current authorization or sponsorship eligibility.
Prepare your OPT or STEM OPT documentation early
If you're bridging on F-1 OPT, confirm your I-983 training plan reflects actual engineering duties, not a generic description. USCIS scrutinizes STEM OPT extensions in technical roles, and a weak training plan can jeopardize your authorization window before H-1B filing begins.
Account for PERM timing in senior role negotiations
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, DOL's PERM process runs six to twelve months before an I-140 is even filed. If you're negotiating a senior engineering offer, factor that runway into your planning so your priority date strategy aligns with your long-term immigration goals.

Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company files petitions for engineers in disciplines including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and systems engineering. Sponsorship is most consistent for product development and manufacturing-focused positions. Because H-1B is subject to the annual lottery, timing your application cycle correctly matters. Confirm sponsorship scope with your recruiter before signing an offer.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Apply directly through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal, where Engineering roles are posted by site, discipline, and business unit. Before applying, verify the role matches your visa type and that the position description reflects a specialty occupation your degree supports. Migrate Mate lets you browse current Thermo Fisher Engineering openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you prioritize the right applications.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Engineering roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories), F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT for students in co-op or internship programs, and employer-sponsored Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM pathways. The right visa depends on your citizenship, degree level, and where you are in your career. Senior engineering hires are more likely to have Green Card sponsorship built into the offer conversation.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific typically expect for Engineering roles?
Most Engineering positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related engineering discipline. Roles in instrument development, bioprocessing systems, or manufacturing engineering often require field-specific experience such as working with analytical instruments, cleanroom environments, or regulatory-compliant manufacturing processes. Graduate degrees in engineering or a related science field strengthen your profile for senior or R&D-adjacent roles, where EB-2 sponsorship is more commonly available.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Thermo Fisher Engineering hire?
If you're starting on F-1 OPT, your employer has up to 60 days after your OPT start date to file an H-1B cap-subject petition in April for an October 1 start. PERM for Green Card sponsorship typically takes six to twelve months with the DOL before I-140 filing. Premium processing for the I-140 can reduce that USCIS review window to 15 business days. Plan your transition timeline with HR before accepting the offer.
