Align your credentials to GAAP-heavy requirements
Thermo Fisher's Finance Manager roles typically require demonstrated experience with U.S. GAAP and financial consolidation across large business units. If your credentials are foreign, get a credential evaluation that explicitly maps your degree to a U.S. bachelor's in accounting or finance before you apply.
Target divisional finance roles over shared services
Thermo Fisher's Life Sciences, Specialty Diagnostics, and Laboratory Products divisions each run their own FP&A functions. Divisional Finance Manager openings are more likely to include sponsorship language than centralized shared-services roles, which often prefer candidates already authorized to work.
Clarify sponsorship scope before your final interview
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B transfers and new H-1B filings, but not every hiring manager knows the process. Ask the recruiter directly whether the role is approved for sponsorship before you reach the offer stage, not after.
Prepare for PERM timelines if pursuing permanent residency
If your goal is a Green Card, Thermo Fisher supports EB-2 and EB-3 PERM sponsorship for Finance Managers. DOL PERM processing currently runs 18 to 24 months or longer, so get clarity on the company's internal policy for initiating PERM during your offer negotiation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Finance Manager openings by sponsorship
Not every Thermo Fisher Finance Manager posting is open to sponsorship candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter listings specifically to roles where sponsorship has been confirmed, so you're not spending time on positions that won't move forward for visa holders.
Time your H-1B transfer to avoid cap exposure
If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Thermo Fisher can file an H-1B transfer and you can start working as soon as USCIS receives the petition. You don't need to wait for approval, and you're not subject to the annual cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Finance Managers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Finance Manager roles. The company files both new H-1B petitions and H-1B transfers for qualified candidates. Sponsorship availability can vary by specific role and business unit, so confirming with the recruiter early in the process is the most reliable way to avoid surprises at the offer stage.
How do I apply for Finance Manager jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
You can apply directly through Thermo Fisher's careers portal or browse open Finance Manager roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific division and function listed in the posting, since Thermo Fisher's finance teams operate across distinct business units with different priorities and reporting structures.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Finance Manager hires?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for most Finance Manager hires requiring work authorization. For candidates on F-1 OPT or CPT, the company will typically support the transition to H-1B at the appropriate cap filing window. For longer-term sponsorship, Thermo Fisher also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification, and TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying finance roles.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Finance Manager roles?
Most Finance Manager openings at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, with several years of progressive experience in FP&A, financial reporting, or business partnering. Roles supporting R&D or manufacturing divisions often expect familiarity with cost accounting. A CPA or CFA designation strengthens your candidacy but is not always required. International degrees are accepted when accompanied by a credential evaluation.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Finance Manager offer at Thermo Fisher?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B, you can start at Thermo Fisher as soon as USCIS receives the petition, typically within a few weeks of the offer being finalized. For new H-1B filings, the annual cap lottery runs in March for an October 1 start date. If Thermo Fisher is sponsoring a Green Card through PERM, expect the full process, from PERM filing to I-140 approval, to take two to four years depending on your priority date and country of birth.
