Align your credentials to LCA job titles
Thermo Fisher files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL for each sponsored role. Before applying, review publicly available LCA disclosures to identify the exact job titles used for Business Operations positions, then mirror that language in your resume and application materials.
Target roles tied to regulated operations
Business Operations roles supporting Thermo Fisher's regulated manufacturing, clinical supply chain, or quality compliance divisions are more likely to carry degree requirements that meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, strengthening your H-1B eligibility from the outset.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Thermo Fisher posts Business Operations positions across dozens of sites and divisions simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed, saving time and focusing your applications on positions with a realistic sponsorship path.
Clarify sponsorship scope before offer negotiation
Thermo Fisher's sponsorship decisions often vary by business unit and hiring manager. During final-round interviews, ask directly whether the role includes H-1B filing support and whether the company covers premium processing, so there are no surprises at the offer stage.
Prepare degree equivalency documentation early
For Business Operations roles requiring a bachelor's in a specific field, USCIS accepts equivalent combinations of education and experience. If your degree is from outside the U.S. or in a tangentially related field, get a credential evaluation completed before you receive an offer to avoid delays in the I-129 filing process.
Time your OPT to STEM extension window carefully
If you're on F-1 OPT, Business Operations roles at Thermo Fisher in operations research or supply chain analytics may qualify for a 24-month STEM extension, giving you up to three years of work authorization and multiple H-1B lottery cycles before your status becomes a critical issue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations roles, particularly positions tied to supply chain management, commercial operations, finance, and strategic planning. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which generally means a specific bachelor's degree or higher is the normal minimum requirement for entry into that position. Sponsorship availability can vary by business unit, so confirming with the recruiter early in the process is advisable.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal at jobs.thermofisher.com. Search by function using terms like "business operations," "commercial operations," or "supply chain strategy." Because Thermo Fisher operates across many divisions globally, filtering by location and business segment helps narrow results. Migrate Mate also aggregates Thermo Fisher's sponsored Business Operations openings in one place, making it easier to identify roles where visa sponsorship is explicitly supported.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Business Operations roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for Business Operations professionals. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying occupational categories, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured employees. The specific visa used depends on your nationality, education, and how long you've been with the company.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Business Operations roles?
Most Business Operations roles at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain, finance, or a related field. Roles supporting regulated manufacturing or clinical operations often prefer candidates with life sciences industry exposure. Project management certifications, ERP system experience (particularly SAP), and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice environments add weight to applications targeting the company's pharmaceutical or diagnostics divisions.
How do I manage the H-1B filing timeline when starting at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, Thermo Fisher must file your H-1B petition by April 1 for an October 1 start under the standard cap timeline. If you're selected in the lottery, you can continue working on OPT during the gap. USCIS allows premium processing for faster adjudication. Confirm with your recruiter which fiscal year's cap-subject filing applies to your offer and whether the company uses premium processing as a standard practice.
