Frame your credentials around U.S. equivalency
If your finance degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation before you apply. Thermo Fisher's H-1B filings require USCIS to confirm your degree meets specialty occupation standards, and a pre-evaluated transcript removes a common delay.
Target divisions with recurring Finance headcount
Thermo Fisher operates across life sciences, diagnostics, and laboratory products. Finance roles in high-growth divisions like bioproduction or clinical research tend to open more frequently, so filtering your search by business segment sharpens your targeting.
Distinguish between OPT and H-1B timelines early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration against the H-1B October 1 start date. A cap-subject H-1B filed in April won't cover you until October, so aligning your offer timing with Thermo Fisher's recruiting cycle matters more than most candidates realize.
Understand the PERM process for long-term sponsorship
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, Thermo Fisher must run a DOL-supervised PERM labor market test before filing your immigrant petition. Ask your recruiter during final-round interviews whether the role is eligible and what the typical internal timeline looks like.
Use Migrate Mate to find active Finance openings
Finance roles at large science companies like Thermo Fisher fill quickly and aren't always flagged as sponsorship-eligible on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Finance openings at Thermo Fisher filtered by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Prepare for employer verification before your start date
Thermo Fisher participates in E-Verify, the federal employment eligibility system. Have your visa documents and work authorization paperwork organized before your first day so the I-9 and E-Verify steps don't stall your onboarding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Finance roles?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Finance positions. The company files employer-sponsored H-1B petitions for qualifying roles that meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which Finance roles typically satisfy when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, or a related field. Sponsorship is handled through Thermo Fisher's internal HR and immigration teams.
How do I apply for Finance jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal at thermofisher.com. Search by function using terms like 'financial analyst,' 'FP&A,' 'controller,' or 'accounting.' When your profile indicates you need sponsorship, flag that clearly in your application. Migrate Mate also lists Thermo Fisher's Finance openings filtered by visa type, which helps you identify sponsorship-eligible roles before applying.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Finance hires?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for most professional Finance roles and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates in finance-related programs. For longer-term sponsorship, the company also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Finance occupations under the USMCA agreement.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Finance roles?
Most Finance positions at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field. Roles in FP&A, treasury, or corporate finance often prefer candidates with two or more years of relevant experience and familiarity with ERP systems. Senior positions may expect a CPA, CFA, or MBA. Your degree field directly affects H-1B eligibility, so alignment between your credentials and the specific role matters.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
The standard H-1B cap process runs on an annual cycle. USCIS opens registration in March, the lottery occurs shortly after, and approved petitions have an October 1 start date. From offer acceptance to authorization, the full timeline spans roughly six months under regular processing. If you need faster authorization, USCIS premium processing reduces the adjudication window to 15 business days, though Thermo Fisher's policy on covering that cost varies by role.
